What you'll do:

As Head of Legal at Innovation Victoria you will play a central role in enabling quality legal advice across corporate and capital transactions. Your day-to-day will involve:

- Leading the Legal function to support Innovation Victoria's strategic objectives and the delivery of the Corporate and Investment Plan.
- Providing expert legal advice on complex, and high-risk investment matters to ensure Innovation Victoria's strategic objectives are met.
- Drafting, negotiating, and managing legal agreements. Managing legal budget and risk and through resolution of disputes, claims, litigation; protection of data privacy.
- Improving operational efficiency and supporting investment transactions throughout the organisation, including through policy and precedent documents.
- Building capability within the Legal team and managing external legal counsel.
- Advising on all relevant legislative, regulatory,



and professional standards by driving continuous improvement in business management processes.
- Supporting Board and Committee functions through the CFO by providing expert legal guidance on governance matters as required.
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders including portfolio investee companies, Victorian government agencies, research institutions, academia, and industry partners.
- Fostering an inclusive team environment where every member understands their role, responsibilities, success measures to support career growth through coaching.

What you bring:

- Commercially astute senior lawyer with at least 10 years' experience gained from a reputable law firm or government agency or similar private company.
- Demonstrated understanding of venture capital, private equity, or institutional fund investment experience.
- Deep understanding of relevant legislation, regulations and policies applicable to Innovation Victoria.
- Act with the highest levels of integrity to manage complex sensitive matters ensuring confidentiality.
- Outstanding influencing skills and ability to build positive internal and external relationships. Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to handled complex negotiations and conflict resolution matters.




- Demonstrated ability supporting a high-performance team culture.
