About the Role
The Dental Assistant is responsible for providing high-quality clinical and administrative support to dental practitioners and the dental team to ensure the delivery of safe, efficient, and culturally appropriate oral health services to patients.
The role supports patient care through chairside assistance, infection prevention and control practices, clinical preparation, sterilisation processes, equipment management, and effective patient communication.
The Dental Assistant contributes to a positive patient experience by promoting a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment that aligns with Kambu Health's commitment to culturally safe care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The role works collaboratively with dental and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to support accessible, coordinated, and high-quality dental services while maintaining professional standards, confidentiality, and workplace safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Dental Support
Provide chairside assistance to dentists during examinations, treatments, procedures, and emergency care
Prepare dental surgeries, instruments, materials,



and equipment to ensure efficient and safe clinical operations
Support patient care by providing clear communication, reassurance, and culturally respectful assistance throughout the dental experience
Assist with dental procedures while maintaining patient comfort, dignity, and confidentiality
Infection Prevention and Control
Perform sterilisation, disinfection, and infection control procedures in accordance with Australian standards, organisational policies, and clinical requirements
Maintain clean, safe, and well-prepared clinical environments, including dental chairs, instruments, and equipment
Monitor and maintain infection control supplies and report any issues relating to equipment or clinical safety
Patient Care and Communication
Welcome patients and provide support throughout appointments, including preparation, education, and post-treatment instructions as directed by clinicians
Promote a positive, respectful, and culturally protected environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, families, and community members
Maintain patient privacy, confidentiality, and professional boundaries at all times
Teamwork and Professional Practice
Work collaboratively with dentists, reception staff, and broader healthcare teams to support effective service delivery
Maintain a professional approach and contribute positively to a respectful and inclusive workplace culture

What You'll Bring
Current Blue Card or willingness to obtain (Mandatory)
Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD) (Mandatory)
Current National Police Check or willingness to obtain (Mandatory)
Certificate III in Dental Assisting or equivalent qualification, with relevant dental assisting experience
Strong knowledge of dental procedures, sterilisation, infection control, equipment, and clinical safety
Excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills with a compassionate, patient-focused approach
Commitment to providing culturally safe, respectful, and inclusive care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
