Job Description
Funeral Arranger – All-Rounder
Bernard Laverty Funerals
Bernard Laverty Funerals is looking for a capable all-rounder to join our team — someone equally comfortable behind a desk guiding a family through paperwork as they are on-site handling the physical demands of the role.
Client-facing & administrative
Meeting with families to arrange funeral services — from first contact through to the day itself
Preparing documentation, permits, death certificates, and liaising with Births Deaths & Marriages, Medicare, and other agencies
Drafting service orders, obituaries, and coordinating with celebrants, florists, and caterers
Managing bookings and schedules across chapels, cemeteries, and crematoria
Handling phone and email enquiries, including after-hours contact with families
General office administration
Physical & in office work
Conducting transfers and removals of the deceased, including out-of-hours and on-call work
Manual handling — lifting, moving, and positioning caskets, often in confined or uneven spaces
Grave digging and backfilling, by hand and machine, including site preparation, lining, and reinstatement of turf/garden beds after burial (assisting the team)
Assisting with monumental work — supporting the installation, levelling, and placement of headstones, plaques, and memorial features, often involving concrete, stone, and heavy equipment on-site (assisting the team)
Setting up chapels,
gravesides, and service venues, including moving furniture, flowers, and equipment
On-call requirements
Participation in an after-hours on-call roster (evenings, overnights, and weekends) is required, primarily for transfers and removals, remunerated in line with the Funeral Industry Award ****.
What we're looking for
Comfortable moving between office-based tasks and physically demanding manual work
Physically fit and capable of sustained lifting, carrying, and manual labour including digging
A current driver's licence (manual preferred) and confidence driving larger vehicles (or a willingness to learn)
Organised, with solid administrative and computer skills
Calm, respectful, and well-presented when working with grieving families
Willingness to be on-call, including nights and weekends, and to respond promptly when contacted
Previous experience in funerals, monumental masonry, cemetery/grounds work, trades, or administration highly regarded — but not essential if you've got the right attitude and work ethic
This role suits someone who can sit with a family and manage the details with care, then just as comfortably head out to dig a grave, install a memorial, or handle a transfer.
Genuine variety, no two days the same.
