Full-Time | $50–$60 per hour base rate + overtime | Modern Heavy Vehicle Fleet
Hornby Transport Services is looking for an experienced Heavy Vehicle Mechanic to join our team at our Thornton depot.
This is a full-time opportunity working on a modern and varied fleet, including Kenworth, Western Star and Freightliner trucks, predominantly powered by Cummins engines, along with a range of tipper, flat‐top and tautliner trailers.
If you enjoy diagnosing faults, solving problems and working with a variety of heavy vehicles, this role offers the opportunity to work both independently and as part of a supportive team.

What you'll be doing
Carrying out scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance on trucks and trailers
Diagnosing and repairing mechanical faults and breakdowns
Working on a variety of heavy vehicle makes and models
Attending breakdowns onsite and offsite when required
Identifying problems and developing practical repair solutions
Accurately recording parts used and work completed
Working safely and maintaining a high standard of workmanship
Working independently when required while contributing positively to the wider team
What we offer
$50–$60 per hour base rate, depending on experience and skills
Overtime rates apply after 7.6 ordinary hours per day
Full-time, stable employment

Exposure to Kenworth, Western Star, Freightliner and Cummins equipment

About you
We're looking for a qualified Heavy Vehicle Mechanic who takes pride in their work and can diagnose and repair faults efficiently.
You will ideally have:
Heavy Vehicle Mechanic trade qualification
Minimum 3 years' post-trade experience
HR or higher driver's licence
Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
Good attention to detail and time management
The ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
Good written and verbal communication skills
The ability to accurately record work completed and parts used
A positive, reliable and safety-focused attitude
Forklift licence (advantageous, but not essential)
Roster and availability
The position operates Monday to Friday, with a rostered Saturday and on-call component each week.
Availability for rostered on‐call duties is a mandatory requirement of the position.
Overtime and applicable allowances are paid in accordance with the applicable arrangements.
