Waterview Electrical Services is looking for a hands-on Smart Works Lead Technician to join our team.
This is a senior field-based role working across high-end residential smart home, automation, security, CCTV, networking, lighting control, and AV projects.
The role is approximately 70% on the tools, with the balance focused on quoting support, technical planning, job coordination, client communication, commissioning, and handover.
You will be responsible for delivering and supporting Smart Works jobs from site setup through to commissioning and handover.
This includes security and CCTV installation/programming, lighting control, C-Bus, KNX, networking/IP systems, basic AV, automation support, fault-finding, and service work.
This is not a desk-based manager role.
It suits someone who is robust on the tools, technically capable, organised, and comfortable taking ownership of jobs.
Key responsibilities
Install, program, commission, and fault-find smart home and automation systems
Install and program security and CCTV systems
Work with lighting control systems, including C-Bus and KNX
Support networking, IP devices, WiFi, AV, and smart home systems
Review job scopes and provide technical input into quotes
Prepare parts lists and assist with supplier pricing where required




Coordinate with electricians, apprentices, subcontractors, builders, clients, and the office team
Complete job notes, photos, commissioning records, and handover documentation
Identify variations and communicate them before extra work proceeds
Support the ongoing growth of the Smart Works division
Required experience
Hands-on experience in smart home, automation, security, CCTV, networking, AV, or electrical work
Strong practical fault-finding ability
Experience working on residential sites, preferably high-end homes
Ability to read plans, understand scope, and work with builders and clients
Strong communication and job ownership skills
Ability to work independently and manage smaller jobs end-to-end
Willingness to stay on the tools while taking on technical leadership responsibility
Preferred experience
Electrical licence preferred but not essential
C-Bus experience
KNX experience
Security/CCTV programming experience
Networking and IP knowledge
Basic AV knowledge
Experience preparing quotes or technical scopes
