Our client is an established and growing Sydney law firm with a strong plaintiff personal injury practice and a particular focus on workers compensation matters.
n
Based in Parramatta, the firm has a dedicated compensation team including experienced senior practitioners and Accredited Personal Injury Specialists. The practice acts for injured workers across the NSW compensation system and has developed a strong reputation for client service, technical expertise and achieving positive outcomes.
n
The firm offers a structured and supportive environment where lawyers are given meaningful responsibility for their files while continuing to work closely with senior practitioners as their technical and advocacy skills develop.
n
The Role
n
Due to continued growth, the firm is looking to appoint a Personal Injury Lawyer with approximately 2–4 years' PAE to join its Workers Compensation team.
n
This is a genuine file-management role where you will take carriage of your own portfolio of NSW workers compensation matters, with support and mentoring from experienced senior lawyers.
n
Your work will include:
n
n
Managing NSW workers compensation claims from initial instructions through to resolution;
n
Advising clients on statutory benefits, weekly payments, medical and treatment expenses and permanent impairment claims;
n
Reviewing insurer dispute notices and work capacity decisions;
n
Developing case strategies and progressing disputed claims;
n
Preparing and running matters before the Personal Injury Commission;
n
Preparing applications, submissions, statements and supporting evidence;
n
Obtaining and analysing medical, employment and liability evidence;
n
Briefing medico-legal experts and counsel where required;
n
Preparing permanent impairment claims and associated disputes;
n
Preparing Independent Review Office funding applications;
n
Conducting settlement negotiations and participating in conciliations, conferences and mediations; and
n
Providing clear and practical advice to injured workers throughout the life of their claim.

n
You will have genuine responsibility for progressing your matters while continuing to receive support on more complex disputes and strategic issues.
n
About You
n
You will ideally have:
n
n
Approximately 2–4 years' post-admission experience;
n
Experience practising in plaintiff personal injury law;
n
Strong exposure to NSW Workers Compensation matters;
n
A working knowledge of the NSW statutory workers compensation scheme;
n
Experience dealing with disputes concerning weekly benefits,
medical expenses and permanent impairment;
n
Exposure to proceedings before the Personal Injury Commission;
n
Strong drafting and file management skills;
n
Confidence dealing directly with clients, insurers, doctors, experts and counsel;
n
Good judgement and the ability to progress matters with increasing autonomy; and
n
A genuine interest in developing a long-term career in plaintiff personal injury law.

Experience appearing in the PIC, conducting negotiations or managing disputed workers compensation claims will be particularly well regarded.
