The Kirketon Road Centre (KRC) is a targeted primary health care facility involved in the prevention, treatment and care of HIV/AIDS and other transmissible infections among 'at risk' young people, sex workers and people who inject drugs.
The Harm Reduction Project Officer position is responsible for the development and support of the Needle &Syringe; Program (NSP) and other initiatives to prevent and reduce transmissible infections and other drug-related harms among people who inject drugs in the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD).
The position is District-wide with primary locations at the Sutherland Hospital and Kings Cross.
This position will involve the establishment of recent NSP outlets; design and delivery of training packages; supporting new and existing NSP outlets including secondary NSPs auspiced by KRC; and involvement in relevant health promotion and community development activities.
This position also supports the strategic development of initiatives at KRC/KRC South aimed at identifying hard-to-reach populations at risk of acquiring HIV and hepatitis C (HCV)



and developing appropriate outreach models in various settings to ensure early diagnosis and assessment of BBVs and maximise uptake of treatment in such populations.
This position also supports KRC's Naloxone Program and has a role in the direct delivery of NSP and outreach services at KRC/KRC South.
KRC is one of the SESLHD Sexual Health and Blood Borne Virus Services, and this position may collaborate with those services as required.

Selection Criteria
Relevant tertiary qualification and/or relevant work experience or a combination of study and work experience in frontline service delivery.
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to harm reduction and the Needle Syringe Program including an awareness of the complexities and challenges involved in setting up a new NSP.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate, manage and evaluate projects, to meet deadlines and to liaise with a diverse range of stakeholders eg community members, non-government organisations, LHD Executive, government agencies and other health workers.
Demonstrated capacity to develop,



deliver and evaluate training programs.
Understanding of health promotion and community development frameworks.
Advanced communication and professional writing skills, including the production of high level reports.
Willingness and ability to work in the unpredictable and sometimes volatile environment for day and evening shifts across a 7 day rotating roster.
Current NSW driver's licence and travel in SESLHD with willingness to work across SESLHD with primary locations at the Sutherland Hospital and Kings Cross.
