Senior Environmental Consultant - Impact Assessments & Approvals
Gas, solar, BESS, transport & development approvals already on the project list
5-person Infrastructure team inside a growing almost 40-person consultancy
Build from project delivery into PM, client ownership & eventually winning work
As an Environmental Consultant / Senior Consultant -Approvals, join a Brisbane environmental consultancy where the next step isn't simply writing bigger reports.
The opportunity here is to learn the whole job.
Initially, you'll be hands-on across environmental approvals, reporting and project delivery, working with senior people who can help build your EPBC and project management capability.
As you become established, you'll take more ownership: coordinating specialists, managing budgets and programs, dealing directly with clients and regulators, and eventually helping bring projects through the door yourself.
And there's a genuinely good mix of projects to learn that on.
The current workload includes two gas pipelines, a new highway bridge, a local government sports precinct, multi-lot residential developments, a BESS, two combined solar farm/BESS projects and two synchronous condensers.
The Role
You'll sit within a 5-person Infrastructure & Environmental Approvals team, working across projects from early environmental constraints and approvals strategy through referral, assessment and delivery.
You'll:
Support and increasingly manage environmental approvals across infrastructure, energy and development projects
Prepare environmental assessments, referrals and approval documentation
Build your capability across EPBC Act assessment pathways and MNES
Coordinate inputs from ecology, heritage, hydrology, planning, social impact and engineering specialists
Manage scopes, budgets, schedules and project deliverables as your experience develops
Liaise with government agencies, clients and other project stakeholders
Turn technical information from multiple disciplines into transparent, defensible reporting
Progress towards taking greater ownership of clients and projects rather than staying purely delivery-focused
The Team
The wider consultancy has grown tonearly 40 people, with complementary capability across environmental planning, ecology, landscape architecture and GIS.
It's large enough to have specialists around you and a strong project pipeline, but still small enough that you aren't buried underneath layers of management.
The culture is collaborative and relatively low-ego, with good access to senior people and flexibility around how you work.
Experience
Around4-8 years' experiencein environmental consulting, government or industry
Environmental approvals / impact assessment experience
Some working knowledge of the EPBC Act
Environmental Science, Planning, Ecology, Environmental Management or related degree
Strong technical writing skills
An interest in developing your project management and client-facing capability
You don't need to arrive as a finished Environmental Project Manager.
That's partly the point.
Salary: $120,000 – $140,000 + super, depending on where you sit within the Consultant / Senior Consultant range.
