Our client is an established vehicle and asset finance business to consumers and businesses across Australia. As the business continues to grow, it is looking for a commercially minded senior legal counsel to lead its Australia legal function and help shape its next chapter. This is a hands-on leadership role suited to a lawyer who is comfortable operating as both trusted adviser and problem-solver in a fast-moving, regulated consumer and commercial lending environment.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the legal function, acting as the primary point of contact for all legal matters across the business
Advise on regulatory compliance under the National Consumer Credit Protection Act, National Credit Code, and BFS's Australian Credit Licence *******), including engagement with ASIC and other regulators
Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements,
including dealer and broker arrangements
Manage disputes, complaints escalations and litigation, and instruct and manage external counsel where required
Applicants
Substantial post-admission experience in financial services, consumer credit or banking law
In-house experience within a lender or broker is highly regarded, though outstanding candidates from private practice will also be considered
A commercial, solutions-focused approach with the confidence to give clear, decisive advice under pressure
Solid stakeholder management skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with the executive team, Board, regulators and external counsel
