As a Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner, you'll take a leading role in delivering and shaping high-quality, evidence-informed behaviour support for autistic children aged 3-6 years, with a strong focus on skill development, meaningful participation, emotional regulation, and reducing the need for restrictive practices.

Flexible commencement options, with the role initially offered at 3 days per week and the potential to increase to full-time by mutual agreement as the programme and practitioner's capacity develop. About Ashton's Place & ACE

Ashton's Place Limited is a charitable foundation that supports autistic children aged between 3 and 6 years old. The Autism Connect Early (ACE) Programme operates across five early childhood centres, providing early childhood support for children and their families.

The programme aims to promote skill development and meaningful participation within the early childhood setting through naturalistic, relationship-based supports. We aim to meet children where they are at; understand the reasons behind behaviour; provide individualised regulation and communication supports; build social connection and relationships; and support children to achieve their individualised goals.

About your role
n
Conduct functional behaviour assessments and develop individualised Positive Behaviour Support Plans that are practical, evidence-informed and meaningful to the child and their support network.
n
Work collaboratively with children, families, educators and allied health professionals to understand behaviour and identify environmental, communication, sensory, emotional and developmental factors influencing behaviour.
n
Develop proactive strategies that support regulation, communication, participation, independence and skill development.
n
Support the development of functional replacement skills,



including communication, emotional regulation, flexibility, social interaction, problem-solving and self-advocacy.
n
Provide coaching and modelling to educators and families to support consistent implementation of behaviour support strategies within everyday routines and natural environments.
n
Observe children within early childhood settings and use information gathered from families, educators and direct observation to inform assessment and intervention.
n
Monitor progress, evaluate intervention effectiveness and adapt supports based on data and clinical reasoning.
n
Contribute to the prevention and reduction of restrictive practices, with a strong focus on positive, proactive and least-restrictive approaches.
n
Provide guidance and clinical support to teams working within the ACE Programme.
n
Contribute to service development, program innovation, resources and professional learning across the team.
n
Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure behaviour support is integrated with communication, developmental, sensory and educational goals.
n
Support children to build skills that increase their autonomy, participation and quality of life.
n
Uphold a neurodiversity-affirming, trauma-informed and strengths-based philosophy in all aspects of practice.
n
About you
n
Tertiary qualification relevant to Positive Behaviour Support, Behavioural Science, Disability, Psychology, Developmental Education, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology or a related discipline. Current proficient or above registration.
n
Experience working with autistic children and/or children with developmental disabilities.
n




Experience or interest in functional behaviour assessment and Positive Behaviour Support.
n
Knowledge of evidence-informed approaches to behaviour support, skill development and emotional regulation.
n
Understanding of the NDIS Positive Behaviour Support framework and restrictive practices, or willingness to develop this knowledge.
n
Current Blue Card and NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willingness to obtain).
n
Driver's licence and reliable transport.
n
A compassionate and reflective practitioner who values connection, play, relationships and co-regulation.

Someone who can look beyond the behaviour to understand the child's communication, needs, environment and experience.

Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to coach families and educators in practical, achievable strategies.
