Angelic Care is seeking a reliable, patient and experienced Disability Support Worker to provide individualised support to an adult NIISQ participant living in Edmonton.
n
The participant is a 61-year-old man living with an acquired brain injury and mobility impairment following a workplace accident. He uses a manual wheelchair for community access but currently manages his personal care independently.
n
The participant would like support to reconnect with his community, attend appointments and activities, and build greater independence and confidence outside the home.
n
Applicants should ideally have some flexibility between Monday and Friday for four hour shift type.
n
About the role
n
Your responsibilities may include:
n
n
Supporting the participant to access the community safely
n
Assisting with manual wheelchair mobility during outings
n
Supporting attendance at appointments, therapy and community activities
n
Planning enjoyable, meaningful and goal-focused activities
n
Encouraging independence, choice and confidence
n
Providing companionship and social support
n
Communicating effectively with the participant, his family and the wider care team
n
Completing accurate progress notes and required documentation
n
Following all care plans, risk assessments and organisational procedures
n

About you
n
We are looking for someone who is:

Patient, dependable and emotionally steady
n




Respectful of participant choice, dignity and independence
n
Confident supporting someone with an acquired brain injury and mobility limitations
n
Comfortable assisting a manual wheelchair user in the community
n
A clear and effective communicator
n
Able to build trust and provide consistent support
n
Interested in community participation and supporting meaningful goals
n
n
Experience supporting people with acquired brain injuries, neurological injuries or physical disabilities will be highly regarded.
n
The participant has expressed a preference for a male support worker. Compatibility, communication style and the participant's right to choice will be considered as part of the matching process. All suitably qualified applicants are welcome to apply.

Current NDIS Worker Screening Clearance

Current Blue Card
n
Current First Aid and CPR certificates
n
Australian Driver Licence
n
Reliable and insured vehicle
n
NDIS Worker Orientation Module certificate
n
Ability to meet the physical requirements of assisting with wheelchair-based community access
n
Availability for regular weekday shifts
n
Solid written communication and progress-note skills

Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Disability or a related qualification
n
Experience supporting people with acquired brain injuries
n
Manual handling or wheelchair support training
