Description:
n This is an Maximum Term contract, part time (15hours weekly), contract starting ASAP - ending 30/06/2027 - Annual salary $75,146 pro rata
n
The Teacher Aide's main responsibility is to provide support, socialisation, security and assistance for the schooling of children with learning disabilities or with disabling health problems, in class.
n
In class support:
n
n
Supports the Class Teacher in the classroom, assisting with classroom lessons and
n
n
activities as part of inclusive teaching and learning practices
n
n
Provides learning support and assistance to individual students or small groups of
n
n
students as directed by the Class Teacher or the Student Wellbeing team.
n
n
Provides feedback to the Class Teacher and/or the Student Wellbeing team in relation
n
n
to individual student learning progress or /and challenges.
n
n
Carries out movement exercises with the children to help support them in their
n
n
learning.
n
n
Supports teachers in implementing Behaviour Management and Individual Education
n
n
Programme (IEP) as appropriate.
n
Programmes and assessments:
n
n
Carries out literacy and numeracy assessments under the supervision and guidance
n
n
of teaching staff.
n
n
Works with individual students on their IEP programmes.
n
n
Administrative and professional development:
n
n
Attends staff meetings as necessary which may include IEP meetings and in services.
n
Works effectively with the "réseau d'aide" on regular basis when necessary.
n
Provides a yearly report.
n
Undergoes professional development and training as necessary.
n
Undergoes training in multisensory approach and assistive technology to assist
n
n
students with assistive technology when developmentally appropriate.
n
Resourcing:
n
n
Makes resources available to help students academically, socially and emotionally.
n
Carries out administrative, craft, classroom housekeeping routines (preparing paints,
n
n
cutting materials, etc) to support the Class Teacher in maintaining an organised
n environment.
n
n
Provides regular feedback and acts as an advisor to the Head of Primary.
n
Works in close collaboration with the parents, provides them support and regular
n
n
advice and makes sure ongoing communication is maintained with them.
n
n
May be required to assist Vie Scolaire towards other students identified as special
n
n
needs students.
n
n
Undergoes playground and any duties as directed.
n
n
Special needs:
n
n
Assists students with special needs in classroom and playground setting.
n
Performs hygiene and cleaning duties as directed.
n
Administers first aid to children.
n
Carries out other Learning Support Activities commensurate with the position as
n
n
directed by the Class Teacher and/or Student Wellbeing team.
n
Skills and Experiences:
n Ideally, you will:
n
n
Have a minimum of two (2) years' experience in a similar role and working with
n
n
children with a range of learning needs.
n
n
Hold entry-level qualification – a Certificate III in Education Support.
n
Be fluent in French and English, and when communicating verbally and in writing,
n
n
demonstrate an ability to maintain cultural sensitivity when relaying concepts and
n ideas between languages.
n
n
Have knowledge of the French educational system.
n
Be well organised, with an ability to manage time and do many things at once within a set
n
n
timeframe, and can change plans often and easily, to achieve results whilst maintaining a
n calm and professional demeanour.
n
n
Be able to work with minimal supervision.
n
Be able to develop and maintain a good relationship with students, teachers and
n
n
parents.
n
n
Have excellent communication skills, and display respect and empathy for students
n
n
with additional needs.
n
n
Display confidentiality, tact, reliability and sensitivity to students and their families.
n
Have proven ability to work collaboratively within a team environment with a "can do and
n
n
we, not me" attitude.
