About the Role
n
The Addiction Counsellor delivers individual and group counselling to people experiencing gambling- and alcohol -related harm. The role works closely with the Lead Counsellor and broader Oakdene team to provide integrated, ethical, and person-centred care.
n
The position is aligned with the SCHADS Award Level 5 (or higher, depending on experience) and is best suited to practitioners with five or more years of counselling experience.
n
The roles' hours align with the current need to fill both counselling and out-of-hours support workshops from our centre.

Key Responsibilities
n
n
Provide individual counselling using evidence-based and recovery-oriented approaches
n
Work confidently with clients experiencing gambling and alcohol harm, including relapse and high-risk periods
n
Apply knowledge of 12-Step and mutual aid recovery models, supporting clients to engage meaningfully where appropriate
n
Deliver structured group programs and psychoeducation
n
Conduct intake, risk assessment, and ongoing case planning
n
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation using Oakdene's systems
n
Collaborate with internal staff and external services to support holistic outcomes
n
Uphold ethical practice standards, boundaries, and trauma-informed care
n
n
About You
n
You will bring:
n
n
Five or more years' experience as a counsellor working in addiction or related settings
n
Eligibility for registration with ACA or PACFA
n
Strong experience in gambling, alcohol and other drug counselling
n
Experience working with gambling addiction, either as a core or secondary focus, is a strong advantage
n
Working knowledge of 12-Step programs and recovery frameworks, and the ability to discuss these respectfully with clients
n
Confidence supporting clients with complex and chronic psychosocial needs
n
Strong documentation, communication, and professional judgement
n
A calm, steady approach and the ability to work both independently and within a team
n
