About the Role

Pittwater High School - Cabrananga Support Unit
n
Pittwater High School is a Year 7-12 comprehensive high school located on Sydney's Northern Beaches. The school is committed to providing an inclusive and supportive learning environment where all students are encouraged to develop their individual strengths, achieve their personal best and actively participate in the wider school community.

Cabrananga is Pittwater High School's Special Education Program, designed to provide a supportive,



inclusive and individualised learning environment that responds to the diverse needs of students.
n
Cabrananga currently consists of three support unit classes, catering for students with Autism, Moderate Intellectual Disability and Mental Health needs, with a fourth class commencing in ****.
n
Each class is supported by a Special Education Teacher and a School Learning and Support Officer (SLSO). This collaborative approach ensures students receive individualised support while developing their independence, confidence and capacity to engage meaningfully in their learning and school community.
n
The role of the School Learning and Support Officer (SLSO) is centred around building positive, respectful and trusting relationships with students. By creating a safe and supportive environment, SLSOs help students feel valued, understood and confident to participate in their learning.
n
Cabrananga aims to provide more than a specialised learning environment. Students are supported to be active and valued members of the whole Pittwater High School community. Where students are encouraged to participate in mainstream classes, school activities, excursions, sporting opportunities, social events and other whole-school experiences.
n
Through strong relationships, individualised adjustments and team-oriented support, Cabrananga strives to ensure that every student has the opportunity to learn, participate, connect and achieve their personal best.

Essential Requirements

Working with Children Check Clearance
n
Completion of mandatory training required by the Department of Education and a willingness to undertake first aid training relevant to the School Learning Support Officer role.
n
Administration of Medications – training to be provided based on student needs.
n
Health support training to be provided based on student needs (subject to transition provisions).
n
n
Specific Selection Criteria

Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
n
Ability to work with students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities.
n
Awareness of the needs of students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities.

Effective communication skills.
