About the role We are seeking experienced and safety-driven Hot Work Supervisors to join the AMPOL Lytton Refinery Shutdown This is a hands‐on leadership role responsible for overseeing hot work activities (welding, cutting, grinding) in a live refinery environment, ensuring all work is executed safely, in compliance with strict permit‐to‐work (PTW) systems and hazard controls.

Key Responsibilities
n
n
Supervise and coordinate hot work in hazardous refinery environments
n
Manage and enforce Permit to Work (PTW) systems, including:
n
Hot Work Permits
n
Confined Space Entry
n
Isolation and LOTO processes
n
Verify field conditions including:
n
Gas testing (LEL, O2, H2S, CO)
n
Atmospheric safety and ignition risk
n
Ensure compliance with:
n
JSA/JHA and SWMS requirements
n
Refinery procedures and safety standards
n
Lead daily toolbox talks, risk assessments, and safety interventions
n
Provide visible leadership and confidently stop work if unsafe conditions arise
n
Coordinate across operations, maintenance, and contractor teams during SIMOPS
n
n
About You
n
n
Strong knowledge of:
n
Major Hazard Facility (MHF) risks
n
Hazardous area controls and ignition risk management
n
Advanced capability in:
n
Permit-to-work systems (PTW)
n
Gas testing and atmospheric monitoring
n
Demonstrated ability to:
n
Lead teams under pressure in shutdown environments
n
Enforce safety standards and challenge unsafe behaviours
n
Excellent communication and coordination skills across multiple stakeholders
n
Previous experience in a refinery shutdown environment or oil & gas shutdowns is highly desirable
n

Trade qualification (or equivalent industry experience)

Refinery / petrochemical / oil & gas shutdown experience
n
Permit Issuer / Permit Authority training
n
Breathing Apparatus competency
n
Fire Watch / industrial firefighting training
n
Robust understanding of isolations (LOTO, blind/spade, DBB)
n
Advanced confined space and shutdown coordination experience
n
Exposure to SIMOPS and hazardous area classifications (Zone 0/1/2)
n
Gas Test Atmospheres certification
n
