This is a newly created role and your chance to shape platform engineering as a discipline at Nearmap from the ground up.
You'll lead the shift from a traditional DevOps model to platform-as-a-product, building the golden paths, self-service tools, and reusable components that let our engineering teams ship independently, safely, and fast.Working within the Platform team, you'll design, build, and operate the cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and observability platforms our engineering teams rely on daily.
You'll treat the platform as a product and engineering teams as your customers, owning initiatives end to end from design through to operation, and communicating clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders across the business.Think a heavily customised Kubernetes implementation that teams self-serve from instead of waiting months for manual provisioning, or an alerting system that plugs straight into Slack instead of every team building their own bespoke tooling.

and releasesWrite and deploy Infrastructure as Code using Terraform as the standard for all platform changesMaintain high availability of infrastructure and platform services, and improve monitoring and observability of production systemsImplement security controls as code, including IAM least-privilege, secrets management, and container image scanningInfluence and educate engineering teams on platform engineering practices and cloud infrastructure securityParticipate in design reviews and architecture decisionsAbout youYou're an owner.

You're pragmatic, curious, and constantly improving your craft.What you'll bring5+ years' experience in a platform engineering or infrastructure engineering role3+ years' experience with public cloud infrastructure, AWS preferredExperience designing and building application containerisation solutions with Docker and KubernetesStrong experience supporting Linux infrastructure and cloud native workloadsExtensive experience writing and deploying Infrastructure as Code with TerraformExperience designing CI/CD, logging,



and monitoring tools for development teamsExperience implementing observability tools within Kubernetes and cloud hosted workloadsScripting and deployment automation experienceExperience working in a highly available production environmentA background in consulting or at a company that builds and iterates at scale will set you up well here.
Long-term BAU or highly structured environments won't be the right fit for this role.Desirable but not essential: GitOps and progressive delivery experience (ArgoCD or Flux), experience building or contributing to an internal developer platform (Backstage or equivalent), multi-tenant Kubernetes design, or SRE practices around SLOs and error budgets.Working at NearmapWe move quick, we care about craft, and we're proud of what we're building.
