Major industries in the area include Coal Mining, Power Generation, Beef Production, dryland cropping and irrigation such as Lucerne and Cotton.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESOperate and control tractor and slasher equipment in a safe, efficient and effective manner to achieve programmed maintenance and vegetation management outcomesPerform vegetation control, roadside maintenance, reserve maintenance and slashing operations in accordance with Council standards, work programs and safe operating proceduresProvide high-quality plant operation services to work teams at various locations within and outside the Shire, ensuring work is completed safely and efficientlyAssess work sites and apply judgement to determine safe operating methods, identify hazards and implement appropriate risk controls prior to commencing workConduct pre-start inspections and undertake routine servicing, maintenance and cleaning of plant and equipment in accordance with manufacturer's specifications and Council proceduresMonitor plant condition and promptly report faults, defects, incidents and maintenance requirements to ensure operational reliability and safetyMaintain accurate records of plant movements,
operating hours, maintenance activities and work completed, as requiredRead, interpret and apply work schedules, site instructions, plans and operational procedures to deliver required outcomesUndertake traffic management activities and implement approved Traffic Control Plans in accordance with relevant legislation, standards and Council requirementsIdentify, record and report declared weeds, environmental hazards or other issues requiring remedial actionRespond professionally to requests and enquiries from internal and external customers, providing information within the scope of the positionPerform general labouring and maintenance duties associated with the construction and maintenance of Council infrastructure and assetsOperate other small plant, equipment and machinery within the employee's competencies, licences and training, as requiredParticipate in toolbox meetings, safety briefings and team discussions, contributing to a positive safety culture and continuous improvement initiativesWork collaboratively within a team environment while exercising initiative and limited supervision in the performance of allocated tasksAssist supervisors and senior staff in identifying opportunities to improve work practices,
operational efficiency and service delivery outcomesContribute to the promotion of the image of the Council and the maximisation of good public relationsLiaise with clients, other Council staff, the public, consultants, utility and government authorities in the performance of duties, including providing and obtaining informationUndertake routine administrative tasks as required by the position, e.g. timesheetsAssist senior staff to continuously improve work processes and develop recent practices, as requiredParticipate in training, exercises and response to disaster management and recovery as requiredUndertake other relevant duties as directed, consistent with skills, competence and training.QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND LICENCE REQUIREMENTSCompulsoryRIIMPO315E – Conduct Tractor OperationsQueensland 'C' class manual drivers licenceQLD General Safety Induction – White or Blue Card.Other Plant Operator Tickets would be highly regardedTraffic Management Implementation Plan CompetencyTraffic Controller Competency.ABILITIES, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREDCompulsoryBasic literacy, numeracy and communication skillsDemonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment under minimal supervisionSound understanding of and commitment to EEO and WHS principles and practices.Demonstrated experience in the effective operation of heavy vehicles within a maintenance (or construction) infrastructure environment together with knowledge of road maintenance (or construction) techniques.
