An established manufacturing business is seeking a practical and methodical Reliability Engineer to support its ongoing maintenance and reliability improvement program.The role will work closely with two experienced mechanical fitters who are responsible for carrying out structured equipment inspections across the plant.
The inspection framework, documentation and initial work structure are already established, providing the successful candidate with the opportunity to focus on executing the program effectively and developing their understanding of the site's equipment.This is a hands-on engineering position suited to an early-career Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineer who enjoys spending time on the factory floor, working alongside tradespeople and turning technical information into useful maintenance and reliability outcomes.Role ResponsibilitiesWork closely with mechanical fitters carrying out equipment inspections across the plantReview planned inspection activities and requirements with the fittersAssist with interpreting inspection requirements, drawings and equipment informationComplete and maintain inspection documentation and technical recordsRecord equipment measurements, condition, defects, observations and recommendationsCapture and organise photographs and supporting technical informationReview inspection findings and identify items requiring further investigation or engineering actionHelp determine whether equipment issues should be monitored, repaired,
replaced or escalatedFollow up outstanding inspection actions and maintain visibility of progressCoordinate with production and maintenance to identify suitable inspection opportunitiesPlan inspection activities around production requirements and equipment availabilityReview equipment drawings, manuals, maintenance records and historical informationImprove the quality and consistency of equipment and maintenance informationProvide regular updates on inspections completed, findings, outstanding actions and risksCoordinate inspection schedules and outstanding reliability actionsAnalyse inspection findings and identify recurring equipment issuesSupport the development and improvement of preventive maintenance tasksEstablish and improve equipment condition and maintenance historySupport root cause investigations into recurring equipment failuresIdentify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, maintainability and availabilitySupport the development of maintenance procedures and technical documentationWork with the maintenance team to improve maintenance practices and consistencyProvide structured reliability information to support maintenance and engineering decisionsCandidate RequirementsMechanical Engineer or Mechatronics EngineerApproximately 2–3 years of practical industry experienceManufacturing, processing, FMCG, food manufacturing,
building products or automated production experience highly regardedGood understanding of mechanical equipment including bearings, gearboxes, conveyors, chains and sprocketsUnderstanding of pneumatic and hydraulic systems, motors and rotating equipmentComfortable reading mechanical drawings, equipment manuals and technical documentationPractical and comfortable spending significant time on the factory floorGood Excel and general computer skillsStrong ability to capture, structure and maintain technical informationConfident communicating with experienced tradespeople and production personnelOrganised, methodical and disciplined with documentation and follow-upCurious and willing to ask questions and develop an understanding of plant equipmentAble to work independently once processes and expectations have been establishedThe successful candidate will initially focus on coordinating inspections, capturing accurate equipment information, reviewing findings and following up outstanding actions.
Over time, the role will take greater ownership of reliability activities including condition monitoring, preventive maintenance improvement, root cause investigations and equipment reliability initiatives.This is an excellent prospect for an early-career Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineer to develop strong practical experience across maintenance, reliability and manufacturing, with the opportunity to take on greater responsibility as their understanding of the plant develops.
