Latrobe Regional Health is looking for Deputy Director of Anaesthetics to join our growing on a part time fixed term basis.

The Deputy Director of Anaesthetics supports the Director of Anaesthetics in providing clinical leadership and operational management of the Anaesthetics Department at Latrobe Regional Health. The role is responsible for supporting the delivery of safe, high‑quality and efficient anaesthetic services, while contributing to workforce planning, clinical governance, service development and quality improvement initiatives.

Working closely with clinical teams, hospital leaders and key stakeholders, the Deputy Director plays a pivotal role in ensuring contemporary anaesthetic services are delivered to the Gippsland community. The position also supports education, research, professional development and multidisciplinary collaboration across the organisation.

The role of the Deputy Director of Anaesthetics is to:

- Provide clinical leadership to the Anaesthetics Department, ensuring safe, high‑quality and person‑centred anaesthetic services.
- Support operational management of the department, including workforce planning, rostering, resource allocation and service delivery.
- Lead clinical governance activities, including development of standards, policies, protocols, audit processes and compliance with accreditation requirements.
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, supervision and professional development of anaesthetic medical staff while supporting workforce sustainability initiatives.
- Promote education, training and mentorship for anaesthetic registrars, junior doctors and medical students, fostering a robust learning culture.
- Contribute to strategic planning, service development, research, innovation and multidisciplinary collaboration to enhance perioperative and anaesthetic care.

About you





Ideal candidates for this role will have:

- MBBS (or equivalent), current registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA).
- Demonstrated clinical expertise expected of a specialist anaesthetist, with a strong focus on patient safety and quality care.
- Proven leadership capability, including experience supporting workforce management, service development and clinical governance activities.
- Strong interpersonal, mentoring and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across clinical and executive teams.
- A commitment to continuous improvement, education, research and innovation, with the flexibility to support change and evolving service requirements.
- Additional postgraduate qualifications in public health, research, leadership or management (desirable).
