About the role

The Early Childhood (Pre-primary School) Teacher will plan, organise and conduct play-based educational programs that develop the physical, social, emotional, language and cognitive capacities of children in their pre-primary years, and will assess and document each child's learning and progress in accordance with the Early Years Learning Framework, the National Quality Standard and the Education and Care Services National Law and Regulations.

Key responsibilities

- Plan and structure play-based learning in indoor and outdoor environments, using a variety of materials and equipment to facilitate each child's development
- Plan, organise and conduct age-appropriate activities that develop foundational numeracy, literacy, speech, early reading and writing, music, art and literature
- Provide varied experiences and activities that develop motor skills, cooperative social skills, confidence, independence and understanding
- Promote language and communication development through storytelling, role play, songs, rhymes, music, group discussions and individual interactions
- Observe, assess and document children's learning and progress, and identify signs of ill health, emotional disturbance, developmental delay, disability or learning difficulty
- Monitor children's nutritional health, welfare and safety, identify factors that may impede their progress, and take appropriate action in accordance with the Centre's policies and referral procedures
- Develop, implement and evaluate individual and group learning plans and educational programs aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework, the National Quality Standard and developmental milestones
- Discuss children's development and progress with parents and carers through regular communication, parent interviews and progress meetings




- Attend staff and committee meetings and work collaboratively with educators, management and relevant professionals to support children's learning and wellbeing
- Maintain accurate and contemporaneous records of observations, assessments, learning outcomes, incidents and communications, and prepare reports for families, the Centre Director and the relevant regulatory authorities as required

About you

- Demonstrated experience planning and delivering educational programs for children in their pre-primary years in a long day care, preschool or kindergarten setting
- Sound working knowledge of the Early Years Learning Framework, the National Quality Standard and the Education and Care Services National Law and Regulations
- Experience observing, documenting and assessing children's learning and preparing individual and group learning plans
- Ability to build respectful, skilled relationships with children, families and colleagues, and to communicate children's progress clearly
- Experience with play-based, Montessori or Reggio Emilia-inspired approaches is well regarded
- Strong communication, organisational, record-keeping and teamwork skills
- An ACECQA-approved early childhood teaching qualification (bachelor degree or approved diploma) recognised for the purposes of the Education and Care Services National Regulations
- Current teacher accreditation, or eligibility to obtain accreditation before commencement
