Building/Health Compliance Officer
Permanent, Full Time Opportunity
$86,800 - $100,000 + 12% Super
Based in Armadale| Opportunity for a 9-day fortnight

At the City of Armadale, we’re committed to strengthening communities through safe building practices. Our Building Services team plays a vital role in ensuring the quality, compliance and safety of residential and commercial development, helping maintain the standards our community expects and the legislation requires.
We’re looking for a Building/Health Compliance Officer who can investigate non compliance, provide clear advice, and support enforcement actions with professionalism and care. If you enjoy problem solving, working with people and applying legislation in a practical, community focused way, this role offers meaningful impact and strong development opportunities.
About the Role
As a key member of the Building Services team, you’ll support safe and compliant building activity across the City. You’ll conduct inspections, investigate reports of non compliance, and help ensure building work meets legislative, environmental health and safety standards.
You will:
- Investigate compliance matters including service requests, site inspections and stakeholder interviews
- Assess building activity to ensure adherence to approvals, conditions and the Building Code of Australia
- Prepare documentation including reports, evidence records, summaries and recommendations
- Support enforcement actions by assisting with Notices, Orders and Infringements under supervisor guidance
- Provide clear compliance advice to builders, residents and internal teams
- Collaborate with stakeholders across Council, industry and government agencies
- Apply legislation including the Building Act 2011, Building Regulations 2012, Local Laws and related standards
- Maintain accurate records and ensure documentation meets legal and organisational requirements
- Support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to streamline processes and reporting
- Promote protected practices through WHS awareness and responsible compliance actions
This is a role where your judgement, communication skills and attention to detail will directly contribute to safer buildings and stronger community outcomes.
About You
You’re someone who combines regulatory understanding with strong communication, fairness and professionalism. You enjoy working with people, resolving issues and applying legislation in a practical, balanced way.
To this role, you’ll bring:
- Knowledge of building industry standards.
- Understanding of WHS requirements.
- Experience with investigations and evidence gathering.
- Knowledge of Local Government’s role in building and development compliance.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Administrative capability including data entry and documentation.
- Experience in building services or compliance.
- Negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
- Current C Class Driver’s Licence.
- National Police Certificate (or ability to obtain).
