Join yaliwunga as a valued Disability and Mental Health Support Worker – working alongside mob and young people with disabilities to live meaningful, culturally safe and more connected lives. This is not a generic support worker role and will suit someone who sees themselves as a mentor or peer-support person.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver person-centred, trauma-informed supports aligned with participant’s personal, recreational, vocational, and/or cultural goals

Adapt to working with both youth and adult clients in varying, complex care settings

Support daily living activities and routines

Facilitate community access and culturally safe social participation

Follow positive behaviour support plans and implement best practice in line with individual client needs

Transport clients safely in your own reliable and well-maintained vehicle

Maintain clear, accurate documentation and case notes

Collaborate with care teams, families, therapists, and coordinators

SIL Supports

About You:

This is not a generic support worker role and will suit someone who sees themselves as a mentor or peer-support person – you will be proactive and focussed on walking alongside each client as they work toward meaningful goals. These goals may be personal, recreational, vocational, and/or cultural. You will be someone who is connected with the community, able to see each individual client’s goals as important and worth striving toward and constantly looking for interesting ways to overcome barriers and foster independence.

Demonstrated experience supporting youth and adults with complex needs in a person-centred and collaborative way





Understanding of behaviour support principles

NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willingness to obtain)

Valid Driver’s Licence and reliable vehicle with insurance

Strong communication and documentation skills

Availability for weekday and/or weekend shifts

Clear and compassionate communication skills (written and verbal)

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Willingness to upskill, participate actively in training and other career development opportunities

A genuine interest in working for a small, Aboriginal-owned company who's committed to changing how NDIS supports are delivered for the benefit of our clients

Highly Regarded:

Experience working with and supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients in a culturally-safe way

Education, training and/or qualifications in disability, mental health or community services AND/OR lived work experience in the field

Experience with complex supports

Current First Aid & CPR

SIL Experience

Up to 15-20 hours a week casual employment with a view to move into a permanent position

Paid fortnightly on time always.
