Our Energy Policy and Regulation practice is looking for an experienced Consultant or Senior Consultant to join the team.
Our Energy Policy and Regulation team in Australia works with organisations at the centre of the energy transition, including governments, regulators, market bodies, investors, developers, networks and retailers. We combine deep knowledge of electricity markets and networks with practical policy, regulatory and commercial insight, helping clients understand complex market changes and make confident decisions. Our work spans market reform, network regulation, consumer energy resources, wholesale market design, renewable energy zones, transmission planning and the role of policy in enabling a reliable, affordable and lower-carbon energy system. We mostly support clients in Australia's east-coast National Electricity Market (NEM), along with some support to clients in Western Australia's and Current Zealand's energy markets.

Examples of the types of projects you can expect to work on:
- Advising policymakers on policy design for complex energy transition topics such as the integration of large-scale renewables and storage into market, the future role of networks, or the integration of data centres into the grid
- Working alongside the team of a government transmission planning body on the development and implementation of policy and regulations for renewable energy zones, access rights and transmission planning
- Supporting an energy network to develop their regulatory proposal to the Australian Energy Regulator (AER), including leading work on regulatory strategy, business case development, demand forecasting, cost-benefit analysis and stakeholder engagement
- Advising on the integration of consumer energy resources (CER) into the grid such as developing a distribution system operator (DSO) strategy for a distribution network, network tariff design, non-network solutions, or the role of the wholesale market, networks, retailers and aggregators to effectively optimise CER
- Advising clients on potential future options for wholesale market design to facilitate investment, drive the energy transition while maintaining reliability and affordability.
- Providing policy and regulatory insights into commercial advisory work across a range of project types such as market entry strategy for a new storage developer, due diligence on the sale of a transmission network, or commercial growth strategy for the unregulated arm of a distribution network
