JobScout Pty Ltd are working to assist our client, Tamby Foods, an established Australian food manufacturing business operating since 1985. Based in Heidelberg West in Melbourne's north-east, the business produces a branded range of frozen pastry products alongside a growing contract manufacturing operation, and has built its reputation on consistent product quality, HACCP-accredited food safety compliance and reliable service to its customers. The business is currently expanding its distribution into Queensland, Western Australia and South Australia.
Our client is seeking a degree-qualified Engineering Technologist, known internally as the Manufacturing Process Technologist, to join the team on a full-time, ongoing basis at their Heidelberg West manufacturing facility. This is a process engineering role, distinct from the site's maintenance function. Reporting to the Operations Manager and working closely with production, quality assurance and the site's maintenance technologists, the successful applicant will be responsible for how the plant's production processes are designed, specified and improved — throughput, yield, product consistency and cost — across both the Tamby-branded range and contract manufacturing runs.
Responsibilities of our Engineering Technologist will include:
·Analysing plant production processes across pastry forming, filling, folding, frying and baking, blast freezing and packaging lines, applying engineering technology principles to improve throughput, yield, product consistency and cost efficiency.
·Designing, modifying and optimising production line layouts, workflows and equipment configurations for the Tamby-branded range and contract manufacturing runs, including engineering solutions to reduce changeover time between product formats.
·Evaluating, selecting and commissioning new plant and equipment — dough sheeters, forming machines, fryers, spiral and blast freezers, sealing and packaging machinery — preparing technical specifications, conducting factory acceptance testing and overseeing installation and process validation.
·Developing and maintaining technical process documentation including process flow diagrams,
equipment operating parameter sheets, standard operating procedures and engineering change records.
·Applying engineering analysis to production data — line speeds, downtime, wastage, energy and utilities consumption — to identify bottlenecks and implement continuous improvement and automation initiatives.
·Providing engineering support to the HACCP-accredited food safety system, including hygienic equipment design, critical control point instrumentation, temperature monitoring systems and calibration of measuring devices.
·Determining process parameters, equipment settings and packaging specifications for the scale-up of new products and contract manufacturing lines from pilot to full production, and conducting process capability trials to validate them.
·Investigating process faults and quality deviations arising from production, performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective engineering solutions to process design and operating parameters.
·Specifying process control, instrumentation and automation requirements for production lines, and defining the operating and performance criteria that the site's maintenance function works to.
·Preparing engineering analysis, cost-benefit modelling and technical project plans to support management decisions on capital expenditure, capacity expansion and technology upgrades, including the company's interstate expansion into QLD, WA and SA.
·Ensuring plant, equipment and processes comply with relevant Australian Standards, WHS requirements and food manufacturing regulations, including machine guarding, electrical safety, and pressure and refrigeration systems.
To be successfully considered for the role, you:
·Hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in relevant field or a closely related engineering discipline.
·Have a minimum of 1+ year relevant post-qualification experience in a food, beverage or FMCG manufacturing environment.
·Have demonstrated experience in process optimisation, line layout or workflow design, and the commissioning or validation of production equipment.
·Have knowledge of food production industry standards, including HACCP and GMP, which will be highly regarded.
·Have exposure to process instrumentation, PLC-controlled production lines and industrial refrigeration or freezing systems.
·Are able to interpret and produce technical drawings, process flow diagrams and equipment specifications.
·Understand Australian Standards and WHS obligations applicable to food manufacturing plant.
·Have excellent time management skills and the ability to work under pressure.
·Have well-developed communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively across production, quality, maintenance and management teams.
·Have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to resolve engineering challenges creatively.
·Have a passion for continually improving skills, expertise and business capability and efficiency.
This is a full time position of at least 38 hours per week.
Are you a degree-qualified engineer who enjoys solving complex process and plant challenges? Do you take satisfaction in improving how a production line runs, and in seeing your specifications turned into working plant? Are you looking for a stable, full-time role with an established Australian manufacturer entering a period of growth?
You must have unrestricted Australian working rights to be considered.
Interested? This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced process or manufacturing engineering professional seeking their next role in food manufacturing.
