About the role

Band 4 - base salary $136,633 per annum (plus super)

TasNetworks is seeking a motivated Protection & Control Engineer to join our Rocherlea‑based team. This is an excellent opportunity for applicants looking to deepen their technical capability, contribute to network reliability and safety, and play a key role in supporting Tasmania’s evolving energy future.

As a Protection & Control Engineer, you will provide specialist engineering expertise across protection systems, control schemes and automation assets within the transmission and distribution network. You will support the implementation of safe, reliable and efficient assets through high‑quality engineering analysis, design, configuration, testing and commissioning activities.

Working closely within Commissioning and the broader Project team, you will contribute to operational support, factory and site based testing, project delivery, fault investigations and continuous improvement initiatives. You will also collaborate with internal stakeholders across Network Operations, Field Services, Planning, and Major Projects to ensure protection and control systems meet performance, compliance and safety requirements.

What you’ll do

- Deliver protection and control engineering support across planning, design, configuration, testing and commissioning activities.
- Analyse network events and protection operations, providing clear technical insights and recommendations.
- Develop and review protection settings, logic and documentation, ensuring compliance with standards and operational requirements.
- Support capital and maintenance projects, including upgrades, replacements and new installations.
- Provide technical advice to internal stakeholders, field crews and project teams.
- Contribute to continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to enhance reliability, safety and system performance.
- Maintain high‑quality engineering records, models and configuration data.
- Champion safety, ensuring all work aligns with TasNetworks’ safety systems, policies and behaviours.

About you

You are an engineer with strong technical capability, a collaborative mindset and a commitment to delivering high‑quality engineering outcomes. You bring:

- Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
- Experience in protection, control, automation or related network engineering disciplines.




- Robust analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex technical information.
- A commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver work to required timeframes.
- Alignment to TasNetworks’ core behaviours and values.
