Modern Airline Retailing moves the airline beyond legacy distribution and passenger servicing to an offer and order world of dynamic pricing, personalised bundles, and a single view of every customer order across every channel. The Head of Technology, Modern Airline Retailing is responsible for developing and maintaining the approved technology strategy for Qantas’ commercial and retailing platforms, spanning airline commercial systems, loyalty systems, revenue management, inventory, passenger service systems, payments, passenger revenue accounting and data and reporting, to meet the current and future needs of the Qantas Group and ensure alignment across the core technology function.
Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, the role is a senior leadership position and will be instrumental in supporting critical organisational and technology transformations, and will work closely in the evaluation and solution development of key technology investments. This role will be required to build and maintain strong relationships across commercial, digital and operational teams, and with our platform and distribution partners, to develop a clear understanding of business needs and ensure the cost-effective delivery of technology and digital services to meet those needs. This includes owning the key technology decisions to build for the long-term while managing roadmaps and business needs. As a people leader, this role will be a key decision-maker in regard to the recruitment and retaining of top talent, providing employee coaching, mentoring, development and team building.
You’ll have:
- Significant experience (10+ yrs) leading technology within airlines, travel or large multinational organisations, including exposure to commercial and operational teams
- A proven track record delivering large,
multi-year technology transformation programs at scale, taking accountability for outcomes from business case through to go-live and benefit realisation
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree, with expectation of postgraduate study in Technology, preferably with broader business administration qualifications
- Deep expertise across airline commercial systems, including revenue management, pricing, inventory and distribution, offer and order management and NDC
- Hands-on experience with airline passenger service systems (PSS) and commercial platforms such as Amadeus, Sabre and Accelya, spanning reservations, ticketing, revenue management and payments, and the vendor ecosystems that support them
- Proven experience delivering data and reporting capability that turns commercial data into pricing, revenue and merchandising decisions
- Strong product management discipline, including roadmap ownership, prioritisation and running empowered cross-functional teams that own outcomes end-to-end
- Strong leadership skills with demonstrable ability in influencing, negotiating, managing large teams, establishing and running cross-functional projects/teams, delivering outcomes in a time-sensitive environment, managing change and project management
- Substantial experience managing teams with complex workloads and competing priorities
- Deep technology expertise with an ability to engage, influence and lead technology and business leaders.
- Experience replacing and modernising large-scale, integrated systems in a live operational environment, including migration off legacy platforms without disrupting trade.
- Extensive senior management experience gained in a highly complex information systems and technology environment.
- Customer- and results-oriented, with a strong sense of energy and purpose, experienced in strategic planning, budget and resource management, and a team builder and team player with a positive,
pragmatic and collaborative operating style with the highest levels of ethics and integrity.
