HSE Manager / HSE Advisor - Construction

Canberra | Competitive salary + super | Full time onsite

We are seeking an experienced HSE professional with a strong construction background to join an established organisation delivering major construction and infrastructure projects in Canberra.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Health, Safety & Environment professional who is passionate about maintaining high standards of safety, compliance and risk management across complex construction projects.

Please note: Australian Citizenship is mandatory. The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain an NV2 security clearance and must be available to work onsite 5 days per week.

About the Role

Working closely with project management and construction teams, you will be responsible for supporting and driving HSE outcomes across the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities will include:

- Lead and promote a strong health, safety and environmental culture across construction activities
- Provide HSE advice and guidance to project managers, supervisors, contractors and workers
- Develop, implement and maintain HSE plans, procedures and systems
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits and risk assessments
- Identify hazards and implement appropriate control measures
- Monitor compliance with WHS legislation, regulations, standards and project requirements
- Investigate incidents, near misses and non-conformances and implement corrective actions
- Support the development and review of SWMS, JHAs and risk assessments
- Monitor subcontractor and contractor HSE compliance
- Provide HSE reporting, analysis and recommendations to project leadership
- Deliver toolbox talks,



inductions and safety training as required
- Promote continuous improvement across HSE practices and processes
- Maintain accurate HSE records, registers and documentation

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- Proven experience in an HSE/WHS role within the construction industry
- Strong knowledge of Australian WHS legislation and construction safety requirements
- Experience working across active construction sites
- Demonstrated experience conducting audits, inspections, risk assessments and incident investigations
- Strong understanding of SWMS, JHAs and construction risk management
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to influence and engage with project teams at all levels
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to safety
- Relevant HSE, WHS, Occupational Health & Safety or construction qualifications
- Construction White Card
- Experience working on large-scale or complex construction projects will be highly regarded
