This course is available for Year 11 students who love the water or thinking about a future in boating or maritime. Students will get the chance to build real-world skills while still completing school.
The Certificate II in Maritime Operations (Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal) is an entry-level qualification that introduces students to working on and operating small commercial vessels. They will develop practical skills in a hands‑on marine environment and learn about career opportunities in the maritime industry.
What students will learn
- How to safely operate and crew small vessels (up to 12 metres)
- Basic navigation and seamanship skills
- Using inboard and outboard motors
- Safety, emergency and survival skills at sea
- Workplace health and safety in a maritime setting
This course is a great starting point for students interested in careers such as deckhand, marine operations, boating industries, or further maritime training.
