The Tasmanian Land Conservancy (TLC) looking for an experienced and practical Reserves Manager who can bring together conservation priorities, people and resources to deliver effective management across TLC’s reserves.

We conserve significant habitats and ecosystems by raising funds to buy and manage private land and by working with landholders to protect nature on their land. TLC's strategy is to expand protection and care for nature by integrating conservation models. These include TLC reserves that are owned and managed in perpetuity, land protected by conservation covenants through our Revolving Fund, and by working with landowners to protect the ecological values on their properties through programs including the Midlands Conservation Partnership, Land for Wildlife, Gardens for Wildlife and WildTracker. In 25 years of operation, TLC has helped to conserve 110,000 hectares throughout Tasmania. Our aim is to extend the land we manage as permanent reserve and other land conserved by an additional 25% by 2030 by continuing to build a community for conservation in Tasmania.

About The Position

This is an opportunity to lead the practical management of some of Tasmania’s most significant conservation reserves, turning conservation priorities into meaningful action on the ground.



You’ll lead a capable and committed Reserves Team, working alongside conservation scientists and partners to tackle complex land management challenges and deliver lasting outcomes for nature.

The successful candidate will be organised, collaborative and comfortable balancing strategic priorities with the day-to-day realities of managing a diverse reserve network. They will be able to set clear priorities, support and develop staff, make sound decisions and keep work moving across multiple projects and locations.

They will have a strong understanding of practical land or conservation management and have the ability to build positive working relationships with staff, contractors, volunteers and partners.

Key responsibilities

- Plan and coordinate reserve management works – turn conservation priorities and reserve plans into practical, prioritised annual and seasonal work programs.
- Lead and manage the Reserves Team – provide line management, set priorities, allocate work and resources, and support staff performance and development.
- Oversee delivery of reserve projects and operations – coordinate projects, contractors, budgets, fire management and other operational activities across TLC reserves.
- Monitor performance, safety and outcomes – track progress, manage operational risks, report on delivery and continually improve how reserve management work is undertaken.

The position is offered a fixed term (2 years), part-time role (0.8 FTE = 60.8 hours, with regular work hours negotiable), based in Tasmania, Hobart or Launceston. The TLC provides a flexible work environment where a good work-life balance can be maintained. A remuneration package (pro rata) based on TLC Level 3.1-3.2 (Salary Range $103,926 - $108,229, plus statutory superannuation) commensurate with qualifications, skills and experience. We envision a starting date on 2nd November 2026.
