Our client is an established vehicle and asset finance business to consumers and businesses across Australia. As the business continues to grow, it is looking for a commercially minded senior legal counsel to lead its Australia legal function and help shape its next chapter. This is a hands-on leadership role suited to a lawyer who is comfortable operating as both trusted adviser and problem-solver in a fast-moving, regulated consumer and commercial lending environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead and manage the legal function, acting as the primary point of contact for all legal matters across the business
n
- Advise on regulatory compliance under the National Consumer Credit Protection Act, National Credit Code, and BFS's Australian Credit Licence (392188), including engagement with ASIC and other regulators
n
- Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements,
including dealer and broker arrangements
n
- Manage disputes, complaints escalations and litigation, and instruct and manage external counsel where required
n

Applicants
n
n
- Substantial post-admission experience in financial services, consumer credit or banking law
n
- In-house experience within a lender or broker is highly regarded, though outstanding candidates from private practice will also be considered
n
- A commercial, solutions-focused approach with the confidence to give clear, decisive advice under pressure
n
- Solid stakeholder management skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with the executive team, Board, regulators and external counsel
