The Opportunity
n
This agency is looking for an EL1 Financial Accountant to join its finance team.
n
You'll take ownership of the financial statements, and act as the agency's primary point of contact for its auditors.
n
You'll also have an chance to:
n

- Gain broad exposure across financial statements, month-end processing and asset accounting, rather than one narrow function
n
- Direct liaison with the ANAO and internal audit, with genuine ownership of the audit relationship
n
- Work in a small team where your contribution to statutory reporting is directly visible
n
- Secure a long-term non-ongoing contract, or by Section 26 transfer for current APS employees
n
n
The Role
n
This role covers the full financial accounting cycle for the agency, from monthly close through to annual statutory reporting.
n
Your responsibilities will include:
n
n
- Preparing annual and monthly financial statements
n
- Managing the month-end process, including accruals, prepayments and reconciliations
n
- Implementing new and updated accounting standards and reporting requirements
n
- Manage asset accounting, including stocktake, revaluation and impairment
n
- Acting as the agency's primary liaison with the ANAO and internal audit
n
- Preparing compliance reporting for the agency
n
n
The Ideal Person
n
You're CA or CPA qualified, with solid technical experience preparing financial statements and managing month-end processes in a federal government context.
n
You might already work in a similar accounting role, or currently work in external audit and be looking to move to the other side of the desk.
n
You will bring the following skills and experience:
n
n
- CA or CPA qualification
n
- Experience preparing financial statements and managing month-end close processes, including accruals, prepayments and reconciliations
n
- A working understanding of accounting standards and their practical application to financial reporting
n
n
To be considered for this role you must an Australian Citizen and have an existing baseline security clearance.

Salary / Rate
n
n
- $125k – $135k + Super
n
- Long-term non-ongoing contract, or by Section 26 transfer for current APS employees
n
- Based in Canberra, with 2 days a week working from home
n
