The opportunity One of Australia’s leading super funds is seeking an immediately available Financial Accountant for an initial 12-month contract. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Group Accounting, you will join a high-performing Group Finance team and take practical ownership of the accounting work that supports reliable reporting, effective controls and financial soundness across a complex group. The role provides maternity-leave cover and adds capability while the finance function prepares for a significant systems upgrade. Your contribution will be visible from the outset, with broad exposure across Group Accounting, Tax, Reporting, Financial Operations and Audit.

What success will look like

- Get across the environment quickly. Learn the entity structure, close calendar, key reconciliations, cost-allocation logic, stakeholder map and open issues, then become productive with decreasing supervision.
- Own a disciplined monthly close. Prepare and post journals and accruals, complete general-ledger reconciliations and support an accurate, timely monthly trial balance across multiple group entities.
- Make the balance sheet defensible. Substantiate balances, maintain bank reconciliations and fixed-asset records, investigate reconciling items to root cause and leave clear supporting evidence.
- Keep intercompany activity controlled. Facilitate cost allocations, administer invoices and settlements, resolve mismatches and maintain a reliable audit trail, including the correct treatment of GST and related tax inputs.
- Deliver reporting and audit support people can trust.



Prepare clear profit-and-loss and balance-sheet schedules for management and board reporting, respond thoroughly to audit requests and resolve issues at pace.
- Leave the process stronger. Maintain current policies and process documentation, identify practical control improvements and improve at least one recurring process during the assignment.

What you will bring

- A relevant tertiary degree and CA, CPA or equivalent professional qualification/experience.
- Hands-on monthly close experience in a complex corporate or multi-entity environment, and/or a strong top-tier chartered accounting foundation.
- Sound technical knowledge across accounting standards, balance-sheet substantiation, reconciliations and internal controls.
- The curiosity to understand the problem behind the numbers, the judgement to act on what you find and the attention to detail to deliver accurate work at pace.
- Explicit communication and a collaborative approach with finance, tax, reporting, operations and audit stakeholders.

Financial-services experience is helpful, particularly in superannuation, wealth, banking or insurance, but it is not essential. Strong transferable experience from another complex corporate environment will be considered.
