A General Manager - Projects, focusing on delivery, systems and efficiency

Our client is a successful and fast-growing project delivery business with an impressive pipeline, an entrepreneurial leadership team and a reputation built on doing what they say they will do. As the business continues to scale, they are looking for an accomplished project leader to take ownership of the delivery function - someone capable of leading multiple projects and project teams, while still having the experience and appetite to personally take control of significant or complex projects when required.

You will take leadership responsibility for:

- Leading the successful delivery of projects from mobilisation through construction, completion and handover.
- Personally managing major, complex or strategically important projects where your experience can have the greatest impact.
- Providing direction, support and accountability to Project Managers, Site Managers and broader delivery teams.
- Driving programme performance and maintaining clear, current project plans so that site and office teams have visibility of upcoming milestones, resource requirements, procurement needs and client commitments.
- Maintaining strong control across project cost, productivity, labour, subcontractors, quality and delivery performance.
- Working closely with the Commercial / Pre-Construction Manager to ensure seamless transition from tender and contract award into project execution.
- Creating strong alignment between project teams and the wider business - ensuring Commercial, Procurement, Finance and other support functions understand what each project requires, by when,



and where priorities are changing.
- Identifying project risks early and driving practical solutions before they become project problems.
- Maintaining solid relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and other key project stakeholders.
- Setting clear expectations around safety, quality, communication and accountability across every project.
- Using and continuously improving project delivery systems, planning tools and reporting disciplines so that project status, upcoming requirements, risks and commitments are visible across the business.
- Developing the capability of the wider projects team and creating an environment where strong people can perform at their best.
- Remaining visible across projects and sites - this is a leadership role for someone who understands delivery from the ground up, not simply from reports and meetings.

We are deliberately keeping an open mind regarding your industry background. You may have developed your career in construction, contracting, engineering, infrastructure, fit-out, building services, specialist trades, industrial projects or another project-led environment. What matters most is that you understand how to lead people and deliver complex projects successfully in the real world.

You will likely have operated at Project Director, Construction Manager, Senior Project Manager, Operations Manager,



Projects Manager or similar level, with a track record of taking genuine ownership for project outcomes. You will be comfortable managing significant projects yourself, but equally motivated by the prospect to build a broader delivery function around you.

Commercial awareness will be important, but you do not need to be the organisation's contracts or procurement specialist. You will have a strong commercial counterpart alongside you. What you must bring is the judgement to understand how project decisions affect programme, cost, risk, margin and ultimately the client relationship.

Just as importantly, we are looking for the right leadership style. Someone grounded, decisive and accountable. Someone who can challenge people without creating unnecessary noise. Someone who gets close enough to the detail to know what is really happening, but can also step above individual projects and improve how the whole delivery function operates.

You will also bring strong operating discipline - comfortable working through systems, maintaining accurate project information and communicating ahead of the curve so that others can support delivery rather than react to it.
