This is a hands-on workshop role with plenty of variety. You will read drawings, work independently and take pride in producing quality work. The work ranges from relatively light sheet metal fabrication through to heavier fabricated components, offering good variety rather than repetitive production work.
Key responsibilities
- Fabricating and assembling sheet metal components from drawings
- Cutting, folding, rolling and forming sheet metal
- Operating guillotines, press brakes, rollers and general workshop machinery
- MIG, TIG and spot welding
- Grinding, polishing and finishing fabricated components
- Working with mild steel, stainless steel and galvanised sheet
- Checking dimensions and finished work against drawings and specifications
- Assisting and providing guidance to apprentices and junior staff
- Maintaining a clean, organised and safe work area
About you
- Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade,
Sheet Metal Trade or equivalent
- Previous experience in sheet metal fabrication
- Valuable welding and general fabrication skills
- Ability to confidently read and interpret technical drawings
- Experience operating common sheet metal workshop machinery
- Good attention to detail and pride in the quality of your work
- A practical approach to problem solving
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- A good understanding of workshop safety and WHS requirements
- A reliable attitude and strong work ethic
