Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Horticulturist role based at JD Propagation in the Greater Melbourne Area. The Horticulturist will manage day-to-day plant care, including monitoring plant health, implementing pest and disease control measures, and overseeing propagation activities such as potting, pruning, and transplanting.
Responsibilities include maintaining nursery beds and growing areas, coordinating irrigation schedules, and supporting landscape maintenance tasks as needed. The role involves working closely with the nursery team to meet production targets, ensure quality standards, and maintain safe, clean, and organized work areas.
The Horticulturist will also assist with stock monitoring, record-keeping, and occasional customer or supplier interactions related to plant quality and availability.
Qualifications
- Strong practical skills in Gardening and Landscape Maintenance, with experience in maintaining healthy plants and outdoor spaces.
- Knowledge of Botany and general plant physiology, including understanding of plant growth, propagation, and common pests and diseases.
- Hands-on experience with Irrigation systems and Landscaping practices, including installation, operation, and basic troubleshooting.
- Relevant qualification in Horticulture, Plant Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical nursery experience.
- Ability to perform physical work outdoors in varying weather conditions and safely handle tools, equipment, and plant materials.
- Strong observational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to safe work practices and environmental sustainability.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-based nursery workplace.
