Our client is an Australian pallet manufacturer supplying plastic pallets and packaging solutions to businesses right across the country. Based in Laverton North, they run a busy production operation backed by an in-house mechanical workshop that keeps their plant, machinery and fleet running 24/7.

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, the Workshop Leading Hand is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day running of the mechanical workshop. You will be on the tools carrying out diagnostics, maintenance and repairs, while also allocating work, mentoring the team and making sure jobs are completed safely and to a high standard.

Responsibilities include:

- Overseeing daily workshop operations, allocating tasks and managing workloads
- Carrying out diagnostics, maintenance and repairs
- Leading, mentoring and training a team of mechanics, apprentices and workshop staff
- Supporting the Head of Engineering with maintenance and repair scheduling




- Managing stock takes and ordering workshop parts to keep the workshop running smoothly
- Driving WHS compliance, safety inspections and toolbox talks
- Maintaining accurate job cards, timesheets, service records and reporting delays
- Assisting with production duties when required

The Ideal Candidate This is a excellent opportunity for a trade-qualified mechanic who has led a team before OR is ready to take that step. You will be someone who leads from the front, communicates well with everyone and takes safety + quality seriously.

Furthermore, you must possess:

- A recognised trade qualification
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a mechanical workshop environment
- Previous experience in a supervisory or leading hand role
- Strong mechanical diagnostics and repair skills
- A proven ability to lead a team and allocate resources effectively
- A sound understanding of WHS requirements and safe work practices
- Good communication, organisational and problem-solving skills
- A current Driver’s Licence
