About the role

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Metal Fabricator to join our workshop on a full-time, ongoing basis. Working under the direction of the workshop supervisor, the successful applicant will fabricate, weld and assemble metal components and finished products to specification, working from engineering drawings and job instructions across a diverse range of projects. This is a hands-on trade position offering a consistent schedule with overtime available, and is suited to a candidate who takes pride in accurate, high-quality work and safe working practices.

Key duties and responsibilities

- Interpret engineering drawings, work orders and job specifications to establish material,



dimension and finishing requirements for each job.
- Measure, mark out, cut and prepare carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminium and other metal sections and plate ahead of assembly.
- Set up and operate welding equipment and carry out joining work, with a strong emphasis on MIG/MAG welding, together with TIG and manual arc (stick) processes as required by the job.
- Fabricate, position, tack and assemble metal parts, frames and structures to the required tolerances and design intent.
- Dress, grind and finish completed welds and fabricated items to the standard expected by the business and its clients.
- Inspect and check finished work against drawings, tolerances and the applicable welding standards, and rectify defects where necessary.
- Select, use and maintain hand tools, power tools and workshop equipment safely and in good working order.
- Maintain a clean, orderly and safe work area, and report faults, hazards or defective equipment to the supervisor.
- Observe all workplace health and safety requirements, including the correct use of personal protective equipment and safe handling of materials.
- Liaise and cooperate with supervisors and other members of the workshop team to support the timely completion of jobs.

Skills and experience required

- A Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade or a comparable recognised trade qualification.
- At least three (3)



years of equivalent demonstrated trade experience in metal fabrication and welding may substitute to the AQF listed above.
- Strong, demonstrated experience in MIG/MAG welding, with competency across TIG and manual arc welding techniques.
- The ability to weld to recognised industry standards, including AS/NZS 1554.1, AS/NZS ISO 9606-1 and/or AS 3992, or the demonstrated ability to attain the relevant welder qualification.
- Ability to read and correctly interpret engineering and workshop drawings and to fabricate items accurately from them.
- Positive understanding of measuring, marking out and material preparation for fabrication work.
- A sound knowledge of, and commitment to, workshop safety practices and the correct use of personal protective equipment.
- Reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a workshop team.

Hours and remuneration This is a full-time position of approximately 38 ordinary hours per week, with overtime available. The remuneration for the role is $79,000 – $90,000 per annum, exclusive of superannuation, together with compulsory superannuation and any penalty rates, overtime and allowances payable under the Manufacturing and Associated Industries and Occupations Award 2020.
