We’re looking for a practical, creatively minded maker to join our team and help transform wedding concepts into beautifully crafted spaces. This is a varied, hands‑on role for someone who loves building, painting, problem-solving and making things - and who is equally comfortable coordinating the details that bring it all together.
What you’ll do:
Manage the production of each event from sourcing, production, timelines, budget, on the day installation and packdown
Prop making and set building
Undertake basic woodworking using power tools
Painting and scenic finishing
Create smaller handcrafted details that elevate the overall design
Source materials and liaise with clients, suppliers and trades
Assist with on-site event installations and pack-downs
Conduct site visits, take accurate measurements and document venue requirements
Inventory maintenance and repairs
Receive inventory, quality control, updating and maintaining our inventory database
Plan and coordinate logistics to ensure the day run smoothly
You’ll be a great fit if you:
Genuinely love making things and take pride in beautiful, well‑finished work
Are resourceful and enjoy working out how to turn an idea into something physical
Are highly organised and naturally think in systems, timelines and practical steps
Remain calm, focused and dependable when deadlines matter
Are comfortable using power tools and excited to expand your existing skills
Hold a driver’s licence and are comfortable driving vans and/or small trucks
Have at least 2 years of professional experience in either events, prop making, set building, visual merchandising, theatre, fabrication,
creative production - or another field with genuinely transferable skills
Are an Australian citizen or hold unrestricted Australian working rights
Have access to a reliable personal vehicle, as the role involves travelling to event sites and collecting and returning materials from suppliers.
Working Arrangement
- Full-time hours across five working days, including Wednesday to Saturday
- Saturday work is essential
- Option to work either Monday or Tuesday to make up the fifth working day
- This role requires flexibility, as working in weddings and events often involves non-standard hours. You may be required to work on Sundays, public holidays, and overtime.
You must have full Australian working rights, with permanent residency or citizenship. No WHV applications please.
Why First Sunday?
At First Sunday, your work won’t disappear into a spreadsheet. You’ll see the things you build become part of extraordinary celebrations at some of Sydney’s most beautiful venues.
We’re a fast-growing wedding design studio known for imaginative, design‑led events. You’ll become part of a close-knit, ambitious team where creativity and craftsmanship are valued, positive ideas are welcomed and there is genuine room to learn, contribute and grow alongside the business. No two projects are ever the same, and we think that’s what makes this work so rewarding.
If you’re excited by the idea of turning sketches, samples and creative concepts into something people can walk into and experience, we’d love to hear from you.
Please include examples or photographs of anything you’ve built, painted, crafted, repaired or installed with your application. Personal projects are very welcome.
