Department of Education, Western Australia

Western Australia

This is a permanent full time position commencing Term 4, 2026

The Role

The Desktop Publisher contributes to the delivery of high‑quality learning materials for the School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) by producing professional print and online publications that support teaching and learning across K–12 distance education programs. The role is responsible for creating, formatting and preparing master copies using advanced desktop publishing software, ensuring materials meet SIDE’s design standards and are suitable for both print and digital distribution.

Working collaboratively with writers, editors and curriculum teams, the Desktop Publisher refines draft content, resolves formatting issues and provides technical advice to support the development of engaging and accessible resources. The role also ensures files are stored securely and systematically, maintains accurate records, and manages workflow priorities to meet production deadlines.

Operating within a digital learning environment that includes synchronous Webex delivery and asynchronous Moodle access, the Desktop Publisher plays an important part in supporting SIDE’s commitment to providing quality education to students who cannot attend a regular school, including those in regional and remote locations, students with disabilities, and students with diverse learning needs.

School of Isolated and Distance Education

SIDE is the main centre for Kindergarten to Year 12 distance education and online learning. It provides quality education for students who for various reasons cannot attend classes in a mainstream school.

SIDE offers the same education opportunities and support as most primary and secondary schools, including support for students with disabilities, students with learning difficulties and gifted and talented students. A feature of the student experience at SIDE is the support from teachers in all years, and our secondary student services team.

We have a broad range of Year 11 and 12 courses, catering for all post-school destinations, including university, TAFE, private providers and employment.
