Contract Claims Officer - Fuel Surcharge

Our client is a high-profile NSW Government agency.
We are seeking three Contract Claims Officers to join a newly established operational team responsible for reviewing and processing a significant volume of contractor claims arising from fuel surcharge changes.
Role Description
This is a practical, hands-on role focused on assessing claims, validating calculations and supporting documentation, checking claims against contract requirements and approved methodologies, and processing outcomes accurately and efficiently.
The team is working through a substantial backlog across approximately 10–15 panels and contracts, so this is an opportunity for someone who enjoys working with claims, contracts, data and defined assessment criteria in a high-volume environment.

What you will be doing You will review contractor claims and determine whether the information provided supports the amount being claimed.
Your responsibilities will include:

- Assessing contractor claims against relevant contract terms, eligibility criteria and approved fuel surcharge methodologies
- Validating calculations, rates and supporting documentation to ensure claims have been accurately prepared
- Reviewing data and information across multiple contracts and panels
- Identifying discrepancies, missing information, calculation errors or claims requiring further investigation
- Applying established assessment criteria consistently and making appropriate recommendations
- Processing validated claims through relevant systems and maintaining accurate records
- Working with Contract Officers and other team members to resolve queries and progress outstanding claims
- Assisting with supplier correspondence and requests for additional information
- Managing a high-volume workload while maintaining a solid focus on accuracy and quality




- Contributing to process improvements as the newly established team develops its operating model

What are we looking for? We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in:

- Claims processing or claims assessment
- Contract administration or contract management
- Commercial administration or commercial support
- Procurement
- Supplier or contractor management
- Invoice/payment validation
- Reviewing calculations and supporting documentation
- Applying eligibility criteria, policies, procedures or contractual requirements

You will need to be comfortable working through large volumes of information, checking figures and documentation, identifying discrepancies and making decisions based on established criteria.
Strong attention to detail is essential, as is the ability to work at pace without compromising accuracy.
You do not need prior fuel surcharge experience. Training will be provided on the specific methodology, contracts and systems. What is important is your ability to understand information quickly, follow a defined assessment process and confidently identify when something doesn't look right.
Government or Transport experience would be highly regarded, but is not essential.
This is not a traditional administrative support role. We are looking for experienced professionals who can work independently, manage a significant volume of claims and contribute to clearing the backlog from the outset.
