This is practical, physical outdoor work maintaining parks, streets, cemeteries, medians, roadsides and other public and private spaces across the Gladstone region. The role suits someone who is comfortable working in Central Queensland conditions, can maintain a steady work pace and takes pride in leaving each site safe and well presented.

We are not looking only for someone who enjoys being outdoors. We need people who turn up reliably, follow instructions, work safely around the public and treat company vehicles, machinery and tools as if they were their own.

What you will do

Operate zero-turn and other ride-on mowers, push mowers, brush-cutters and hand tools

Complete brush-cutting, mowing, edging, hedging, litter collection and general grounds maintenance

Apply herbicides when appropriately trained, authorised and licensed

Complete daily pre-start checks and accurately report faults, damage and hazards

Clean, refuel and carry out routine daily care of vehicles, plant and equipment

Set up and maintain safe work areas around roads, pedestrians, traffic and members of the public





Identify and report hazards such as broken glass, low branches, damaged fencing and unsafe public areas

Follow SWMS, protected work procedures, site requirements and reasonable directions from team leaders

Assist other Opal work teams when operationally required

What we are looking for

Demonstrated experience in commercial mowing, parks and gardens, vegetation maintenance, landscaping, farming or similar physical outdoor work

Experience using commercial mowers and brush-cutters safely and productively

Reliable attendance and punctuality, including the ability to attend early starts A strong safety mindset and awareness when working around the public, vehicles and moving machinery

Willingness to care for equipment, complete pre-starts properly and report damage or defects immediately

Ability to follow instructions, work as part of a crew and remain productive when working independently

Ability to perform repetitive and physically demanding work outdoors in heat, humidity, dust and changing weather conditions

Clear and respectful communication with supervisors, co-workers, clients and members of the public

Essential requirements

Current Australian C class driver's licence

Current Construction White Card

Reliable transport to attend the Opal Holdings depot in Calliope for rostered start times

Australian working rights

Desirable tickets and experience

Commercial zero-turn mower or tractor/slasher experience

MR or HR driver's licence

ACDC accreditation and/or Queensland commercial operator's licence

Chainsaw or pole-saw competency

Traffic management or other relevant civil, vegetation or plant-operating experience
