At Avina, we're a national allied health and behaviour support organisation supporting communities across Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia.
With a team of 400+ clinicians, we deliver Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Dietetics and Positive Behaviour Support across community, clinic and telehealth settings, across the whole lifespan.
Our values guide how we work every day:
Progressive | Curious | Respectful | Collaborative | Informed | Purposeful
About the Role
We're looking for an Occupational Therapist with experience and a genuine interest in mental health to join our multidisciplinary team in Northcote.
This role has a strong mental health and psychosocial disability focus, supporting NDIS participants to build independence, increase participation, and develop the skills and routines that matter to their everyday lives.
The role is community-based with clinic access from our Northcote base if you're local, and fully mobile/home-based otherwise. Working within participants' homes and communities gives you a real, practical view of the impact of their mental health, and the chance to deliver strengths-based intervention in the environments where it actually counts.
This would suit an OT with prior experience across mental health, psychosocial disability, community health, or a related setting, looking for more flexibility while continuing to build their clinical practice. Open to full-time and part-time.
What You'll Be Doing
- Deliver person-centred OT with a strong mental health and psychosocial disability focus
- Complete functional assessments, including Functional Capacity Assessments, and provide evidence-informed recommendations
- Support participants with daily living skills, routines, community participation, independence and capacity building
- Build practical strategies to address the functional impacts of mental health and psychosocial disability
- Work with a range of presentations, including more complex support needs
- Collaborate with participants, families,
carers, support coordinators and broader treating/support teams
- Deliver services across home, community and telehealth settings
- Manage your caseload with genuine flexibility and autonomy
- Take part in regular supervision, peer collaboration and professional development
What We Offer
- The chance to build on your mental health and psychosocial OT experience in a community setting
- Flexible working arrangements and hybrid options
- Autonomy to structure your working day
- Structured supervision and clinical support
- A genuinely multidisciplinary team, Psychology, Behaviour Support and broader allied health
- Achievable KPIs that support a healthy work-life balance
- Career development and real career progression
- A national organisation with local team connection
- The systems and resources to support solid clinical practice
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor or Master of Occupational Therapy
- Current AHPRA registration
- Prior experience in mental health, psychosocial disability, or a related clinical setting
- Confidence supporting participants with mental health presentations and complex functional needs
- Strong assessment, clinical reasoning and report-writing skills
- A strengths-based, recovery-oriented, person-centred approach
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- NDIS Worker Screening Check and Working With Children Check, or willingness to obtain
- Driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle, caseloads are built around participants' locations, so this is genuinely required
If you're an OT who enjoys mental health work and wants a role combining clinical reasoning, functional intervention, and genuine community-based practice, we'd like to hear from you.
