YOUR NEW EMPLOYER
Your new employer is a well-established, entrepreneurial business operating a growing portfolio of fitness clubs across the Hunter, supported by a commercial property portfolio and broader group structure. The business has grown by more than 20% over the past 12 months and is moving quickly towards a 10-club network, with plans to expand beyond 15 locations.
It is an owner-led business with a clear growth strategy, strong momentum and a genuine appetite to keep building. The owners are big-picture thinkers who move quickly, back good ideas and value having the right people around them to bring structure, visibility and discipline to the business. Despite its scale, it has retained a close-knit, practical feel. You are not disappearing into layers of corporate structure or a huge finance department. You will know the owners, understand the different businesses and see how each part of the group fits together.
The culture is fast-moving, collaborative and down to earth, with a mix of established businesses, new opportunities and plenty still to come and there is genuine flexibility too, with 2 days in the office and 3 days working from home.
YOUR RECENT ROLE
We need someone who knows their way around Xero, loves a reconciliation and gets an unreasonable amount of satisfaction from seeing everything balance. You will sit across the financial operations of a growing group incorporating 15 entities, keeping the transactional finance function clean, accurate and moving.
The owners are entrepreneurial and naturally focused on growth and opportunity. Your role is to make sure the numbers underneath those decisions are accurate, current and reliable, clean books mean better visibility, and better visibility means better decisions. This is a hands-on role with ownership across the day-to-day integrity of the group’s accounts, including:
- Maintaining accurate accounts across multiple entities in Xero
- Bank, credit card and balance sheet reconciliations
- Accounts payable and receivable
- Coding and allocating transactions correctly
- Managing and reconciling intercompany transactions
- Using MAYDAY to match intercompany accounts across the group
- Keeping general ledgers clean and current
- Supporting month-end processes and external accountants
- Reviewing expenses and investigating discrepancies
- Supporting payroll and wage approvals as required
- Liaising with accountants, bankers and other financial partners
- Maintaining financial information across the commercial property entities
ABOUT YOU
You will come from a strong bookkeeping, accounts or transactional finance background, but we are not necessarily looking for a traditional Bookkeeper. We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys the operational side of finance and takes pride in accuracy, structure and follow-through. Most importantly, you will be someone who cares about getting the numbers right because you understand that the quality of the information directly impacts the quality of the decisions being made.
You will also have:
- Strong hands-on experience with Xero
- Experience working across multiple entities
- Excellent reconciliation skills
- Confidence with intercompany transactions
- A very high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong understanding of transactional finance
- The ability to spot and investigate discrepancies
- Good Excel skills
- Strong organisation and follow-through
- The confidence to work independently and take ownership
- The ability to manage recurring deadlines across multiple businesses
- Experience with MAYDAY would be great, but it isn’t essential.
