At Westminster, we believe we have a responsibility to help, support and develop the teaching profession, which is why we host South Australia's first Teaching School Hub. Our Hub is a partnership between Westminster and several leading universities, designed to provide high-quality initial teacher education while offering excellent additional in-class support for our students.
We recruit some of the most promising trainee teachers during their university studies, giving them a strong foundation and ensuring they are classroom-ready. The Teaching School Hub supports their growth through expert mentors and collaboration with Westminster's most experienced teachers, helping trainees develop into the educators our students deserve.
The program also provides opportunities for aspiring and certified Highly Accomplished and Lead Teachers (HALTs) and our expert teachers to share their expertise and lead improvement across the education system. Our Teaching School Hub is a thriving community of practice that fosters excellence, innovation and collaboration in education.

About the Teaching School Hub

The Teaching School Hub is a partnership between Westminster School and leading universities, designed to give future teachers a richer and more practical pathway into the profession. Each year, high-quality trainee teachers are selected from university applicants and employed by the School on a salary equivalent to that of a Learning Support Assistant (LSA). Depending on availability and School needs, trainees are employed part-time at Westminster School one or two days per week alongside their university studies.



Each trainee is paired with a mentor from the Hub who provides ongoing support, feedback and guidance. The annual rotation of mentors allows trainees to engage with different teaching styles and benefit from a broad range of expertise.

Trainees begin by supporting students in the classroom under the guidance of their mentor and experienced teachers. As their confidence and skills grow, they progress to leading small groups, team teaching and, eventually, taking responsibility for lessons with the support of their mentor and the wider Teaching School Hub team. Alongside this hands-on experience, trainees continue to complete all requirements of their university degree, including practicum placements at a range of schools. With university approval, they may also undertake their final placement at Westminster School. Trainees are further supported through professional learning offered by both the Teaching School Hub and Westminster School. This integrated approach helps trainees graduate with academic knowledge and extensive real-world teaching experience, providing a strong foundation for a successful and fulfilling teaching career.

trainees are better prepared and more confident as they begin their teaching careers. As part of the program, trainees gain regular paid work that supports their studies and provides invaluable classroom experience. With the guidance of a dedicated mentor and Teaching School Hub team, they receive personalised feedback and career development tailored to their growth as future educators.

Trainees also have the opportunity to explore a variety of teaching areas and school contexts, broadening their skills and perspectives. They form strong relationships with students and colleagues within the Westminster School community, giving them a genuine sense of belonging and connection as they progress through their studies.

How to apply for a position within the Teaching School Hub
Applicants must be enrolled in a university program leading to a teaching qualification, such as a Bachelor of Education or a Master of Teaching.
To apply, please submit your resume, academic transcripts and a personal statement addressed to Angela Phillips, Director of Teaching. Keep your personal statement to two pages or fewer, highlighting your skills, qualities and motivation for joining the program.
