Founded in 1979, Carrie's Place Domestic Violence and Homelessness Service is a committed team of professionals dedicated to raising awareness of domestic violence and homelessness within the community. As a not-for-profit organisation, we offer a wide range of culturally sensitive services to individuals affected by domestic violence and homelessness.

Our mission is to empower families in the Maitland and Lower Hunter regions by helping them find safe, stable housing and live free from abuse. We work closely with local communities to address domestic violence and homelessness, providing holistic support that fosters capacity-building, inclusion, and resilience.

Our passionate team collaborates to offer a variety of programs focussing on equipping clients with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to maintain healthy relationships and achieve greater independence.

About the Role:

The Case Manager - Aboriginal Youth Wellbeing and Support exercises a high level of responsibility and knowledge across Aboriginal youth community support and works in close partnership with the Specialist Homelessness Service, Staying Home Leaving Violence programs and Women's Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service.





The successful candidate will deliver holistic responses that address underlying needs and risks that contribute to young Aboriginal people's involvement with the justice system and improve outcomes. Responsibilities include delivering culturally responsive initiatives that build long-term resilience and protective factors, increase connection to culture and improve social and emotional wellbeing for young Aboriginal people and families.

Key responsibilities

- Providing case management support to youth participating in the program

- Participating in planning and facilitation of group work programs

- Supporting participants to attend programs including transport

- Supporting social connections for participants

- Building emotional regulation and resilience skills

- Supporting healing from domestic and family violence through culturally grounded practice

- Supporting personal goals, cultural identity and positive decision-making

- Improving mental health literacy

- Building trust and connection to culture and community

- Connecting participants to health, education and community services

Essential Criteria:

- Tertiary qualifications in Social Science or related field (minimum Diploma level).

- Certificate of Aboriginality.

- A commitment to a feminist philosophy, and the principles of social justice and human rights.

- Demonstrated high level of emotional maturity, including respectful and ethical behaviour.





- Working experience in a Specialist Community Service organisation, understanding the complexities and support needs of the Homelessness and Domestic Violence client cohort.

- Ability to deliver services in accordance with the program guidelines, and best practice skills as a Case Manager.

- Ability to work with local community to promote awareness of homelessness and domestic violence services for Aboriginal youth at risk.

- Excellent communication skills, particularly in negotiation, advocacy and conflict resolution.

- Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with clients in crisis and provide appropriate, trauma-informed support.

- Demonstrated ability to network and develop working relationships with the local community and stakeholder.

- Excellent organisational and administrative skills, and computer literacy.

- Current NSW Working with Children Clearance.

- Current NSW Police Force checks.

- Current NSW Driver’s Licence
