About the role
Building Consultant – Contract Position
Morse Building Consultancy (MBC) is seeking an experienced, trade-qualified and building-licensed Building Consultant to join our professional consultancy team on a contract basis.
MBC is a national independent building consultancy providing building inspections, causation assessments, scopes of work, construction defect assessments and technical reporting for insurers, loss adjusters and other industry clients across Australia.
Each member of our consultancy team is carefully selected based on their practical building knowledge, qualifications and extensive experience within the building and construction industry. We are looking for an experienced building professional who has a strong trade background, sound technical knowledge and the ability to apply their practical construction experience within a professional consultancy environment.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must:
• Be trade qualified within the building and construction industry
• Hold a current Builder Licence or other relevant building industry licence
• Have a minimum of 10 years’ post-trade experience within the building and construction industry
• Hold a Diploma of Building and Construction or higher qualification
• Have a strong working knowledge and understanding of the National Construction Code (NCC) and relevant Australian Standards
• Be able to interpret and apply the NCC, Australian Standards and accepted building industry practices when undertaking inspections and assessing building defects and damage
• Have strong practical knowledge of residential and/or commercial construction
• Be experienced in identifying building defects, construction issues and appropriate rectification methods
• Have strong written and verbal communication skills
• Be capable of preparing clear, detailed and qualified technical reports
• Be able to work independently, manage inspections and meet required reporting timeframes
• Hold a current Australian driver licence and have reliable transport
The Role
The successful applicant will undertake building consultancy assignments which may include:
• Building and property inspections
• Assessment of building damage and defects
• Investigation of the cause and extent of damage
• Assessment of construction methods and compliance issues
• Application of relevant Australian Standards and NCC requirements
• Preparation of detailed building consultancy reports
• Preparation and review of scopes of work
• Review of builders’ reports, quotations and proposed repair methodologies
• Liaison with insurers, loss adjusters, builders, engineers and other industry professionals
• Photographic documentation and preparation of supporting technical evidence
Highly Regarded Experience
Previous experience in any of the following areas would be highly regarded:
• Insurance building consultancy
• Insurance claims and damage assessment
• Building defect investigations
• Storm, hail, flood, water ingress or fire damage assessments
• Construction compliance and interpretation of Australian Standards and the NCC
• Scope of works preparation
• Expert reporting or dispute-related building assessments
About You
This position is not an entry-level building consultancy role.
We are looking for someone who has spent significant time working within the building and construction industry and has developed a strong understanding of how buildings are constructed, how and why defects occur, and how building damage should be properly assessed and rectified.
You will have a sound understanding of the National Construction Code, relevant Australian Standards and accepted building practices and be confident applying this knowledge when undertaking inspections and preparing technical reports.
You will need to be professional, practical and confident working independently in the field while maintaining the technical and reporting standards expected by Morse Building Consultancy.
Contract Position
This is a contract-based position suited to an experienced, trade-qualified and building-licensed professional who is looking to apply their extensive practical building and construction experience within the building consultancy and insurance sectors.
Applicants must have a strong working knowledge and understanding of the National Construction Code (NCC), relevant Australian Standards and accepted building industry practices. The ability to interpret and apply these requirements when undertaking building inspections, assessing defects and determining appropriate rectification methods is essential.
The successful applicant must be capable of working independently, undertaking detailed site inspections and preparing clear, professional and technically supported building consultancy reports.
