Working in our Operations team, you’ll be helping with the maintenance and presentation of one of our unique open spaces in Melbourne’s South East. The Role:
We are seeking a motivated and safety-focused Machine Operator – Spoil Rejuvenation to join our Operations team at Springvale Botanical Cemetery. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for operating specialised plant and equipment to support the processing, rejuvenation and distribution of spoil materials across SMCT sites.
Working closely with operational and horticultural teams, you will play an important role in maintaining site presentation, supporting environmental sustainability initiatives and ensuring materials are managed safely and efficiently. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a mix of machinery operation and outdoor work, can work both independently and as part of a team, and takes pride in delivering high-quality outcomes.
Responsibilities:
- Operate front-end loaders, screening equipment and associated machinery to process and distribute spoil materials
- Conduct daily pre-start inspections,
maintenance and servicing of plant and equipment
- Manage spoil screening, blending and soil conditioning activities to support operational requirements
- Monitor, organise and maintain hard stand areas, ensuring a secure and efficient working environment
- Support horticultural maintenance activities including mowing, pruning, garden maintenance and site presentation
- Load and distribute soil, materials and equipment across SMCT sites as required
- Maintain accurate safety documentation, risk assessments and compliance records
- Promote a strong safety culture while delivering excellent service to internal and external stakeholders
Your Profile:
- Front End Loader ticket with at least two years' experience operating loaders or similar heavy machinery
- Experience operating machinery safely in busy operational environments with pedestrian and vehicle traffic
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and environmental compliance
- Experience maintaining diesel machinery and conducting routine equipment checks
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently while managing competing priorities
- Strong communication and teamwork skills with a customer-focused approach
- Ability to identify hazards,
solve problems and take ownership of operational outcomes
- Current unrestricted Australian Driver Licence
