About the role:
The Principal Engineer, Technical Specifications Analysis is a recognised technical specialist responsible for delivering complex power system studies, electromagnetic transient (EMT) analysis and high-voltage equipment assessments. The role provides expert technical advice and assurance to support transmission network development, asset performance, network connections and the integration of emerging technologies. Working across planning, project delivery and operational functions, the position plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable and efficient design and operation of the transmission network.
You will:
- Lead complex power system modelling and electromagnetic transient (EMT) studies using PSCAD and related tools.
- Provide specialist technical advice on high-voltage transmission equipment specifications, performance and network connections.
- Conduct technical assessments across areas such as insulation coordination, switching and lightning studies, EMC, harmonic performance and over-voltage analysis.
- Review and validate engineering studies, technical designs and connection assessments to support informed business decisions.
- Represent the business in technical forums,
working groups and stakeholder engagements, driving best practice and continuous improvement.
What you'll bring
- Tertiary qualifications at degree level in an appropriate discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Extensive experience in power system analysis, transmission planning and high-voltage network studies.
- Strong capability in PSCAD modelling and simulation, with exposure to EMT studies such as insulation coordination, switching studies, harmonics or over-voltage assessments.
- Knowledge of high-voltage transmission plant design, specifications and performance requirements.
- Experience working within a transmission, distribution, consulting or Network Service Provider setting.
Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline and experience in other areas such as stability and compliance analysis for SVC, IBRs and Synchronous machines are desirable.
