Position Title: Industrial Demolition Project Engineer
Job Type: Full-Time
A leading industrial demolition contractor is seeking an experienced and safety-driven Industrial Demolition Project Engineer to manage complex, heavy industrial dismantling and site remediation projects from initial planning through final handover. This position leads engineering assessments, develops structural teardown sequences, and oversees on-site operations to ensure strict adherence to safety, environmental standards, timelines, and budgets.
They have an upcoming project 3 hours from Melbourne where they require someone to join an already established team. This project is ongoing for 18-24 months with a requirement to be on site full time.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Planning & Execution: Develops comprehensive work plans, structural dismantling sequences, equipment logistics, and risk assessments for large-scale industrial demolition sites.
- Engineering & Structural Analysis: Evaluates structural integrity, load-bearing capacities, and stability of degraded or damaged industrial facilities prior to and during teardown.
- Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Ensures strict adherence to national and local safety standards, hazardous material handling guidelines (e.g., asbestos, heavy metals), and environmental regulations.
- Contractor & Client Liaison: Manages operational relationships with subcontractors, client representatives, local authorities, and site superintendents.
- Commercial & Budget Management: Monitors project budgets, tracks variation orders, manages procurement of heavy machinery and specialised tooling,
and ensures timely project delivery.
- Documentation & Permitting: Secures all necessary permits, prepares detailed Method Statements and Task Risk Assessments, and maintains accurate daily engineering logs.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Construction Management.
- Experience: 3+ years of direct project engineering experience in heavy industrial demolition, plant decommissioning, or heavy structural dismantling.
- Technical Skills: Solid proficiency in reading complex engineering blueprints, structural drafting software (AutoCAD), and project scheduling tools (MS Project, Primavera P6).
- Certifications: Current site safety certifications (e.g., OSHA 30-Hour, White Card, or regional equivalent); specialised certifications in hazardous material abatement are advantageous.
- Key Traits: Exceptional problem-solving skills under high-pressure conditions, strong leadership capability, and an uncompromising commitment to site safety.
