Health Information Manager / Clinical Coder
Up to $70,****** (JA2) – $103,****** (JB1) base salary per annum + salary packaging + super + 5 weeks annual leave

About the role
As a member of the Health Information Management led Coding Services team, you will primarily be responsible for the accurate and timely coding of patient records utilising ICD-10-AM, the Department of Health Admission Criteria requirements, and the Australian Coding Standards (ACS).
In addition to this significant task, you will be offered opportunities to work with clinical & research champions working with health data, as well as utilising your knowledge and skills in conducting audits, education and clinical documentation activities related to health information data.
All members of the clinical coding team are set up to work from home once internal training is completed, and all staff work a hybrid of on site and at home hours.
All clinical coding is conducted exclusively using our Epic Electronic Medical Record, which is a shared record across the four Parkville Precinct health services.
As such, there is significant interaction with the other health services and the central EMR team, and opportunities to be involved in ongoing development and use of the record across the precinct.
Position Summary
Deliver timely and accurate ICD-10-AM coding for inpatient episodes in line with Australian Coding Standards
Contribute to data management, quality improvement initiatives, and coding audit activities




Liaise effectively with clinicians and multidisciplinary teams to clarify documentation and ensure accurate data capture and integrity

Skills
Tertiary qualification in Health Information Management, or successful completion of an accredited clinical coding course, with significant experience coding with ICD-10-AM 13th Edition
An interest in digital health and the use of coded data
Knowledge and proficiency in use of 3M Codefinder software
Highly developed problem‐solving skills that lead to positive outcomes
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise work to meet internal and external timelines / targets
High attention to detail
Ability to work as a team member and autonomously
Desirable Requirements
Experience in analysing an electronic medical record (EMR) for coding purposes
Previous experience using a patient administration system
Key Accountabilities
Clinical Coding: Ensure clinical coding is accurate and completed within stipulated time frames; ensure current Australian Coding Standards are adhered to
Education:



Involvement in patient information documentation education of clinicians and other health professionals to support clinical coding and data integrity; attendance and contribution to in‐house and external coding education sessions
Quality Activities: Adherence to, and involvement in, quality audit activities and timelines; attendance and contribution to quality related health service meetings as required
Other HIM related activities: Involvement in other HIM related activities as agreed with Manager, Health Information Services
